Hey, room for a relatively new player? I've been playing solo for a few months but would be fun to play with some folks too. My username's JovaJova. Thanks.

It does get better. I was also terrified at first to play fighting games online but over time my fear diminished and I can now play against people without trouble. Sure, I still get a bit shaky if it's a close and a tense match but that's normal in my opinion.

The disappointing thing is that I don't think there's any special trick to get over it. You just have to keep playing until you get used to the situation. Also, take frequent breaks when the anxiety and salt levels start being too much and go back when you've cooled down.

Actually, I do have a tip: Don't be afraid to lose. As long as you're willing to learn from your mistakes, losses can improve your game a lot more than wins do in the long run. Learn to lose and keep losing until you start winning. Think about why you lost and try to improve on those things. Don't think that you have to win but instead think that you want to learn.

@captain_insano: Yeah, in most cases I'd rather just play video games for solo stuff. But sometimes I'd rather have something tactile. Just like I'd rather read physical books than Kindle or something.

Anyway, big thanks to everyone who gave me recommendations! I decided to get Friday for single player stuff and Eminent Domain for when I manage to get a group together. I'll probably get Mansions of Madness, XCOM or Gloomhaven at some point if we start to get more into board games.

@sin4profit: Friday was the first thing that came up on my initial search. And although it sounds fun, it's not what I'm currently after as it is solo only. I'll probably grab it at some point though.

@captain_insano: Gloomhaven looks cool. That might be something I'll end up buying. I've never been too big of a fan of Star Trek, so I don't think Frontiers is for me.

Thanks, guys!

@alkusanagi: I backed the Dark Souls board game on Kickstarter and for the last month or two I've been waiting for my copy to ship. So, I'll have that thing going on for me whenever I get my hands on it. Both the Mansions of Madness and XCOM seem pretty dang cool. I'm not sure about needing to have an app running while I play though. Definitely possible contenders both of them. As for the Arkham Horror LCG, I'm not so sure about that one. On one hand it looks fun but on the other.. there's something that I can't really put my finger on that's not grabbing me. Thanks!

Hey duders, I'd love to get some suggestions. I've been itching for some board games lately but my problem is that I don't really have a group that I could regularly play with (or at least as often as I'd like). So, do you know any board games that I could play on my own but also in a group if I manage to get people together? I'm particularly itching for deck-building but all recommendations are welcome.

I was looking at Mage Knight but it's a bit costly around here and I'd prefer something with a sci-fi vibe (not necessary, though).

I'd love to grab Eminent Domain but since it's 2-4 players, I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Although, I found this house-rule for playing it solo: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/730846/eminent-domain-solo . Has anyone tried it that way and do you think it's a game that works with just one player?

Thanks, fellas.

I love a good cup of coffee. I prefer drip/pour-over or a french press. Although, my smaller french press got busted some time ago and I haven't gotten around to getting a new one. So, it's been mostly pour-overs for me. I like drinking it black, and I think mixing something (milk, cream, sugar, whatever) just ruins the taste for me. As for the roast, I always buy light or medium because then you get more of the taste of the coffee and not the taste of the roast.

Lately I've been making a good amount of iced coffee and it's been great!

@do_the_manta_ray: Cool, that he's getting better. Although, I get matched up against FANGs so rarely that I usually end up losing those matches anyway. I haven't either really had any matches against characters that got changes. Apart from a couple of Giefs, it's been the same old Akumas, Boxers and Lauras. Granted I haven't been able to play much of the beta because the servers are open at stupid o'clock here in Europe.
