workaround,  compose a mail,  when you enter the user you want to send to, it autofills, select correct user, send mail. go to sent mail and click on username. add friend.  this autofill object in the mail area surely could be used as a separate search friend function?

still no solution to finding friends by typing username? surely this must be an easy fix for the site?
