Wow...despite Alan Wake's flaws, I must admit... (Farm Spoilers)

Wow...despite Alan Wake's flaws, I must admit that the scene in which Alan and Barry need to fend off the Taken at the Anderson Farm is probably one of the most hilariously awesome scenes in video game history. Just as Alan makes his way to the farm, Barry finds himself overwhelmed by the Taken on a stage at the far end of a field. Just when you think the shit's about to hit the fan, however, an electrical mishap triggers a massive serpent stage prop whose pyrotechnics saves Barry's ass. Upon realizing the newfound light sources at his disposal, Barry then begins to set off the flash pots surrounding the stage as rock music blares in the background. This scene is awesome in and of itself, but it also does an excellent job of showcasing Alan Wake's amazing lighting effects.

You can check out this scene below, as I was able to find it on YouTube. :)

That sequence was probably my favorite part of the whole game. And that's not an insult towards the game either, which I happen to think is great in its own right.

I thought it was out of place, and ruined the atmosphere of the game.

This.

And I mean it in a bad way. It was the worst part of the entire game.

How so? I think that it was a welcome change of tone, to be honest.

It felt out of place, it was tedious -- your supplies were large enough that they might as well have been infinite, so there was no tension or anything like that; you were just grinding Taken after Taken -- and all the special effects made it hard to see what was going on.

I thought it was awesome! I loved playing that bit, I loved the feeling it gave me and the music playing in the background. I finally felt like "yeah you fuckers take that for all the axes in the back" I don't think it was out of place, yes the game is mostly dark and gloomy which suits Alan's personality great, but this part has Barry involved who is lively and foolish and set in an area where others (2 rockstars at that) had to deal with the darkness. It didn't come out of no where, you meet the Anderson brothers throughout the game.

I agree that it was out of place, but I believe that's why I liked the scene so much. It was just really out there. As for the supplies, yeah, they're definitely plentiful, but you still need to clear enemies out in order to have the breathing room to collect them. I don't see the problem. Then again, I'm so used to the game screwing me over from a supply perspective that I couldn't help but love the approach taken with this scene.

I thought that it was great, although Left 4 Dead 2's rock concert defense was a little better.

What I liked about it is that it hinted at the history behind the Dark Presence.  The Andersons were touched by the Dark Presence by creating their music, but rather than go along with it, they fought back with THE POWER OF ROCK.  I like when you see the reflections of the past people the Dark Presence has came after.  Thomas Zane in his creepy diving suit.

What I didn't like about it is that it was a relatively relatable idea.  It makes too much sense.  A lot about Alan Wake makes too much sense. It would've been better if it were a tad more incomprehensible.

You know, this game does actually have a pretty decent music selection. I'm kinda on a Roy Orbison kick at the moment, thanks to hearing In Dreams (during the first chapter, if I'm not mistaken).

Actually, yeah.  What it really needed was more moments of pure ".... Wha... oh... okay?  Uhm.  But..... huh."

Have you done this on Nightmare yet?  Just curious...because I have...  I would not say "there was no tension".  There's as much tension in that scene as the difficulty you select wants to put in it.
