Day 2 was insane and immensely entertaining. Holy opinions in this episode, it's great! All 4 categories were hotly debated, some more than others, but still great discussions all around.
Jeff's video is beautiful and I love Vinny's text stuff. "\m/ van hailin!" made me laugh. Oh and Drew's segment was clever. But yes, it's a bummer that this year isn't one of the years where we get the quality of video like 2012's TV parodies or last year's Video Game Apocalypse. But oh well, the deliberations are fantastic!
WARNING: SPOILERS FOR FIRST 30-60 MINUTES OF UNDERTALE.
I'm curious why all the GB guys seem to not like the first part of Undertale. It's one of my favorite parts of the game because it so quickly lets you know what kind of game it is. The jokes are on point. Watching Toriel scowl at enemies to win battles is great. Having her walk you through the puzzles is great. The butterscotch/cinnamon pie bit is great. The game subverts your expectations with Flowey at the start and then later on with Toriel. The boss fight w/ Toriel is emotional, no matter which way you end it.
I love Undertale, it's fantastic and one of my favourite games this year, but I do agree with them that the intro to the game is awful. At the end of the Toriel fight I actually stopped playing and had to think long and hard about if I even wanted to continue playing. I'm glad I did continue because it's fantastic, but yeah, it didn't give me a good first impression either.
As someone who listens to a lot of improv comedy podcasts, the Beast team continues to nail it! They are all very good. Alex in particular is surprisingly great, second only to Vinny improv.
The talk about leveling weapons made me think of Ratchet & Clank. I feel it was one of those series that got better when they introduced leveling weapons. Though the ideas are different from Destiny's (single player, set amount of weapons, and encouraged to use all of them vs. multiplayer, theoretically infinite weapons, and wanting to find favorites or good ones and stick with them), I think leveling weapons have their place.
Yeah, Ratchet & Clank's weapon leveling was cool because the weapon eventually evolved into a different thing like Pokemon but for guns.
