Screw it, I took the plunge

Watching that movie spoof video about GiantBomb Origins reminded me this shit is grass roots, and these guys are busting their asses to be their own bosses and live the American dream. How can you not support that in good conscience? It's 50 bucks, it helps them, and I get a tee-shirt out of it. Fuck Starbucks for a week, I'll have some Whiskey!

Edit: Here's the video since some are having trouble finding it.

Working on a list of Epic Quotes.

Ok, not all of them are EPIC, just some random stuff I've come up with and having fun jotting down. Feel free to share or let me know what you think and every once in a while I'll update just to piss off any haters. LOL

  1. Some times it's not about drawing blood. It's about how many buttons I can undo.
  2. If there was ever a store that was simply named "VICE", all it would sell is good scotch and shoes.
  3. DNF gets released in May and George Broussard returns to his timeline in peace after being exiled for 20 years. Finding a timeline where Randy Pitchford is successful was the tricky part.
  4. The most attractive thing about an outfit is how challenging it looks to get off.
  5. Celebrities really don't matter. They are just a pivotal point of failure most people can relate with.
  6. Don't let my big phone intimidate you baby, I can fit anything into 140 chars.
  7. The only apple product I've ever bought was a mac book for an old girlfriend. When I interacted with the device, I felt like I was having a conversation with a magician who was trying to convince me the software trickery would make up for the lack of quality in the hardware. It did not.
  8. It takes skill to make sense to the people you get to despise you. That's what being an evil genius is all about.
  9. Communism is nothing more than busy work.
  10. I don't trust these guys. They believe I was born in 1903

  17. Sometimes when nobody wants to be involved with what you're doing, you feel that you finally have the privacy to attempt something worth doing.
  18. Bad players ask "why did the rogue disappear?" Good players anticipate where the rogue will reappear.
  19. You don't need booze as long as you've got plenty of crazy.
  20. Why should I believe anything you have to say with relevance to my PvP experience when you never even learned how to PvP on the forums first?
  21. Oh and for anyone out of the culture loop, just consider Duke our modern day "Elvis". He's
  22. worshiped in that white trash way that will always make him a legend no matter if he's the classic Duke, comeback Duke, or fat Duke.
  23. You don't become smarter the older you get. You become more clever the older you get.
  24. If I had purchased a console this gen it would have been a PS3. I'll take bat-shit crazy, egotistical, overpriced, self-destructive, arrogant, bug eyed, corporate stooges over money hat wearing megalomaniacs who sabotage their own perfect gaming platform in order to push their DRM and DLC agendas on an inferior "multimedia box" while spoon feeding dudebros the most 3rd hand, 3rd world, made in Mexico, RROD, pieces of monkey shit this side of the mississippi. Holy shit, where's the tylenol?

  35. The only difference between a politician and a someone with a career in marketing is the guy from marketing doesn't get beheaded/jailed after he's fired.
  36. Imagine a time when free products didn't try to infect your computer with vicious legal malware all in some feeble attempt to frustrate you into purchasing their product.
  37. This had a lot less suck than anticipated.
  38. Dogs, we always out-live them but they always out-love us.

Million Dollar Ideas

It's what I do, and have a ton of fun doing it. Anyways here's one off the top of my head you guys might like.

I'd open a chain of stores named "VICE" and all they would sell is good scotch and designer shoes.

 Easy million bucks.

Giantbomb earned my respect today with good old fasion honesty.

...and a good laugh! Seriously, who ever is writing those keep on doing it.

It's that kind of honestly I really appreciate, especially from game reviewers whom we have to extend a casual level of trust to. I was a little harsh when claiming they've "sold out" and with this new gained respect I'll continue to check out the E3 coverage through the weekend. Their work ethic this year is seriously impressive and I'm considering a subscription based on the outcome. The happy hours and TnTs don't do much for me, but the industry footage is great. Keep it up!

My war with SONY SECUROM

So I have borderlands for steam and love it. Recently I decided to get some DLC for borderlands and did not realize one of them came with Sony's SECUROM DRM. Since then it's been a nightmare and I ended up having to reinstall my entire system in order to get rid of the SECUROM. Now I'm in the middle of trying to get steam/valve remove the DLC from my steam account so it won't reinstall it when I try and play borderlands again.

Below are some highlights from support tickets I've sent.

I'll lay out the exact problem i need resolved asap by recalling last nights events as they took place.

1. I own borderlands for steam and love it.
2. I bought some DLC for borderlands and did not realize it comes with SONY SECUROM.
3. I try to run borderlands and securom gives me an authentication error.
4. I follow the instructions on the securom site and download the manual authentication tool but borderlands will still not run.
5. I get email from securom support with a work around and that doesn't work either.
6. Now I'm fed up and really pissed. I just want to play borderlands and search for a way to remove just the DLC zombie island of dr ned but find none.
7. I delete borderlands and try to reinstall but steal automatically installs the DLC leaving me screwed.
8. Frustrated I decide to take it out on some zombies in L4D2, but steam now randomly crashes every 5 minutes or so.
9. I think maybe the securom on my computer is causing that so I download the securom removal tool from their site and use it.
10. The securom removal tool does not entirely remove securom from my system. Now I'm VERY pissed.
11. With no solution left other than to reload my entire computer, I write the angry support ticket above to steam/valve requesting they remove the DLC for me and give me a refund for just the zombie island of dr ned.

Conclusion:

When I reinstall my computer from a fresh format I want to be able to install borderlands via steam without it installing the DLC with the DRM on it. Furthermore I shall never support anything that uses SECUROM ever again. Steam is protection enough. I expect no less than a favorable resolution to this because I'm unable to use the software I purchased from steam due to the malware protection bundled with the DLC.

Oh... also here are screen shots I took from my desktop. The first one is the error borderlands gave me that prevents me from running the game and securom support could not resolve for me.

This is the work around they provided that did not work.

This one is the message I got after running the securom removal tool. Securom's support for my request to be provided with a tool that properly removes ALL of securom was in short telling me "tough luck it's there for good."

> Hello.

> SecuROM does not install any malware, including any viruses, spyware or
> trojans, nor does it enable any third-party to gain access to your computer.

> SecuROM simply downloads and stores SecuROM license data and information to
> assist with disc authentication and activation. This data and information does
> not affect your computer system in any way.

> The link below contains a tool which removes SecuROM:

https://support.securom.com/removaltool.html

> Please understand that any application that uses SecuROM will rebuild these
> files and folders with future launches.

> Best regards,

> or via e-mail: support@securom.com

The removal tool the support rep provided me in the email is the exact one I used in the screen shot I sent them BEFORE they replied to me. Now you can understand how I got so pissed over this issue and how I've been very thorough exploring every possible option to fix the issue myself. My only solution left is a complete reinstall and a refund from steam/valve because that DLC has to be removed in order for me to play Borderlands.

Don't you love companies who treat paying customers like they are criminals? SONY SECUROM on top of Steam is unnecessary and hurts the customer in the end. This will be the last game I ever support that uses SONY SECUROM and for that matter this has weakened my support for SONY products overall since they created this bullshit in the first place.
