Best of 2010

loganWTF: Best of 2010

Wow, trying to make this list is friggin' difficult.  Granted I have only recently gotten back into gaming after a 4 year hiatus but I have still kept up with the gaming world.  It seems like this year was stronger than the past few years.

special consideration for Pac-Man CE DX, Risk: Factions, Madden '11, and COD Black Ops.

List items

  • Building on the already strong foundation of AC 2 and adding one of the most unique and fun multiplayer sequence makes this my game of the year.

  • Civilization was one of my first loves in the world of PC gaming and the Fifth installment makes it deeper and more enjoyable than ever. Plus Giant Death Robots!

  • Rockstar earns their name by combining Grand Theft Auto with The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly and makes it better with improved gameplay and graphics. The characters and the voice acting are top notch. Plus zombies DLC that isn't cliche.

  • It's tough to put this game this low on my list.... maybe I should put it higher... oh I don't know. Gorgeous graphics, deep story and characters, and a universe that I want to get lost in.

  • A nice step towards the promise of true interactive movies. This is choose your own adventure like I have always wanted it. Still not perfect but still very good and I am excited to see what this leads to next for the medium.

  • Last year I would have expected this to be my game of 2010 but it still does not seem as completely realized as Fallout 3 or maybe it's just too easy to get distracted in the world. Bugginess and difficulty to really get lost in the world knocks this one down a few notches... but it's still an amazing game.

  • Ok, I admit, I haven't actually played this yet other than a few multiplayer games. I'm just played through Halo 3 to try to catch up with the series and this is coming up next, but from everything I've seen online and the little I've played it, I feel comfortable putting this at number 7.

  • Great atmosphere and unique gameplay mixed with a fun Twin Peaks-esque episodical format made it one of my top 10 games of the year.

  • I've never experienced anything like Limbo. Beautifully dark atmosphere and mind-bending but not anger-inducing puzzles really made this stand above the rest of the XBLA market and even other full retail games.

  • Bioshock 2 seemed, to me, like just more of the same from Bioshock 1 but that's not a bad thing. I never got to experience Minerva's Den but I enjoyed playing this and fighting Big Sisters was more fun than fighting Big Daddies in my opinion.
