No. "It was all the character's dying dream!!!" is even worse than "and it was all just a dream!" as far as clichês go. One of the guy's behind Majora's Mask recently came out as saying that the theory is indeed untrue, and I don't blame him. It's a fantasy game, where things like alternate dimensions that exist inside tree trunks are actually possible, believable things. The game doesn't NEED this idea, it's sinister and weird enough on its own steam without adding the ham-fisted dying dream element.

Good games journalism is ignoring all the hyper-leftist tumblr twaddle and getting on with things.
As far as examples go... Well. I'm here at Giant Bomb, am I not? I also think Jim Sterling does excellent work. I also enjoy Eurogamer's Digital Foundry articles a lot.

When I was a kid I used to sort my villagers by giving women "feminine" roles (herb gathering, farming) and men "masculine" roles (mining, hunting).

I'm...I'm the problem with society ;_;

Well that's pretty much how it went. Only when sheer survivalism was no longer our life goal did things start transmuting into the form things are now, where gender ROLES are in this massive state of flux and fluidity. The fact that the two sexes were doing different forms of work doesn't really say anything about equality, nor should it. Different context entirely.

Fucking hell people really have gone soft haven't they?
Beating people's heads in with all manner of improvised weaponry is fine but cross the line into some sort of sexual violence in the context of the scene being on a film set for a fake exploitation scene (y'know, basically meaning it's not actually rape in the fucking slightest,) and everyone loses their minds.
I can't wait to see how many people call this "problematic." You know what's problematic? People being unable to stop being a bunch of pussies.

But yeah, moral police gonna police morals. It's the way of the world. Carry on Australia. I'll be over here not giving a shit.

If you want to see some real craziness, this is the Tetris GM exhibition Alex mentioned in the run. It's nuts.

Some of the most impressive, mindblowing shit I have ever witness in my time upon this earth. Just INCREDIBLE

It's like suspension of disbelief isn't a thing for people anymore or something.

I bet the question "How does a two to three year break sound to you?" wasn't anywhere to be found.

See. Even when I state my opinion in a thread about "critically acclaimed games you don't like" I get derided and attacked for it.

There are a few times I wish I could just put people on ignore. This is one of those times.

@deegee: If you're really a teacher you should know better. Shame on you.

He didn't attack or deride you. He politely, non-aggressively stated an opinion that actively disagrees with yours. If that's what counts as an attack these days then people need to grow thicker skin.

Kind of weirdly surprised no-one's said this one. Perhaps my view here is genuinely an anomaly?

Also, I'm left wondering why the last line of this news post was needed? There is already enough steering of the cultural narrative from games journalists, and all Patrick had to do here is simply report that this is a thing. His opinion is irrelevant to this.

If you don't want opinions there are plenty of other sites out there.

It just seemed needlessly cynical to me. Why not just wait and take the game on its own merits? It's not like this yearly crap comes down from on high, there are still people in ubisoft actually TRYING to make art despite all that. People who are in positions to sway a cultural narrative should exercise responsibility is all I'm saying.
