I will never understand people that actually care about how much a system sells and whatnot, what does it matter?

You're not interested in sales data, but can you really not see the appeal? Why do people look at the DOW, or box office numbers, or anything? C'mon man, actin' like you don't know... You're either brain-dead or not thinking about it hard enough.

Sales are down in JAPAN because Monster Hunter is on 3DS and PSP but not Vita. The American equivalent is Call of Duty. If the Vita comes out with a good Call of Duty game, it would sell gangbusters in the states. The fact that Sony can actually compete with the big boy on his turf is more amazing then the difference in sales numbers.

If you think the console Call of Duty fan is looking for his Call of Duty fix on a handheld you're insane...

Well you are a doctor. Guess I am insane. :(

Why does some people want the Vita to fail so badly? Do we really want Angry Birds and Mario Karts to have monopoly on the handheld market?

As opposed to interactive movies like Uncharted Golden Abyss (can now automate the platforming with one swipe)?

The Vita won't fail. It is always funny to see people jump all over sales data. People still talk about the 3DS as a sales failure, yet it outsold the DS first 12 month sales in 8 months. Even that means nothing, as the Dreamcast burst out of the blocks like Usain Bolt and then died quickly. Sales are interesting and do matter to developers for planning what games to make, but the internet screaming about it and predicting doom are flatout silly.

That aside, I do think the Vita will struggle for a while. Give it about a year though and I expect to see it steadily climb, especially with a price cut. Curious though - what sales are a success and what are a failure? The PSP is still talked about as a failure, but those 70 million units out there say otherwise. The Xbox only sold 25ish million and was called a success.

You think I want to play a call of duty ass game on a handheld?

Depends whether the product is American or Japanese - a bit like RPGs and racing games.

Didn't it sell 3 times as much as the PSP did in its debut week though?

Those numbers don't look too good but they're not terrible either. Hopefully it will do better once it reaches the US of A.

We have had CoD games on the PSP and DS/3DS haven't we? Did they sell hardware or units even? Gut feeling, I don't play CoD, but I think CoD players want a full experience with a TV and online ............ could be wrong though.

@Prodstep: It's important because it affects how many games will come to the platform, and how much effort will go into those titles, plus the continuation of the platform into further generations.

It doesn't all have to be about fanboyism or what have you. It's an important thing to see, as it also gives a good idea of the state of the industry and the market.

The reason the PSP fat is so great is because those UMD's are SUPER fragile guys, you have no idea, so it's almost a MUST that I be able to "back up" my games on external memory.

Can you back up on a VITA? Nope? Well uhh too uhh SCARED to get it then. I'll wait for cool modders to help me secure my purchase.

But seriously I think that has a lot to do with it - as well as people getting burned on the GO.
