No one cares about new consoles when cloud gaming will take over soon. See the Luna launch. Most hardcore gamers just play on PC anyways. This could be the last console generation.

Mark my words in 5 years no one will talk about buying games anymore. Sounds crazy now, but buying video games will be like buying physical music now a days. I also predict that this is the last console generation ever. Call me crazy, but consoles will be obsolete in 5 years.

I'm not picking up either of the two consoles this year (and, I must add, the only problem I have with any design is the WHITE), but they'll fit just fine behind the TV. I've got a PS4, Switch, Wii, and Wii U behind the TV at the moment. I wonder why more people don't park devices behind the TV!

(...apart from wall-mounts, of course ;)

Most people want to see what they are paying for, but yeah that won't work for me because my TV is mounted, and It wont fit behind my entertainment center either. The more I think about this, the more I think it might not work for a lot of people.

Aesthetics matter for sure. My GF wants to buy me a console this holiday but her entertainment console area is super clean right now. 4k mounted TV and a media console that does not have a ton of space. The Xbox S would fit, but everything is black right now, and a white console would stick like out like a sore thumb. The Xbox Series X would not fit unless I put it on its side, and it still probably won't fit or not have enough airflow. So at this point I'm stuck. My only real hope is if they come out with a black or dark grey Xbox Series S ASAP!

You are basically giving someone your money interest free for 2+ months, plus the chance they could scam you in the process. You are also paying a premium for an unknown variable, when it will probably be available at launch anyway. It's just not worth it in every regard.

If I had to guess, probably not for a good while (I'll see everyone in three years because this will almost assuredly Jinx it). For alot of people Steam is pc gaming. Epic is trying to make a push, but i don't know anyone who is confident enough in Epic to move to that store exclusively. Say what you want about Valve but they clearly can see things are slowly transitioning to have more Netflix style services, and EA Play feels like them testing the waters with getting that integrated into steam. The thing in Valve's favor is that while these subscription models are super useful and cost effective, just like film, people will still want to buy games. If Valve plays this, seemingly inevitable, wave of every dev/publisher having a game subscription service right then they will be just fine

So you're saying Steam can act as the HUB for PC gaming in general and integrate all the services to Steam? GamePass, EAPLAY, and others?

I have been buying games on Steam before I can even remember when at this point, but with the dynamic shift to the "Netflix" style of gaming subscription services, will we see the take down of Valve? or does valve adapt to the times and start their own subscription service? I won about 375 games on Steam, and to be honest I haven't bought a game in a long time and when I do it's usually on sale sub -75% off. The rumor is games will be $69.00 now. So even more inciting to have a game pass service. I welcome a streamlined subscription service for a low monthly price.

@mastaofminds: Microsoft has been really solid with their hardware since the red ring times. My 360 slim, launch X1, and X1X are all super efficient with cooling and I’m not exactly the most rigorous when it comes to cleaning and maintenance. I’d bet both Series consoles will be built like tanks regardless of orientation in your space.

You are probably right. Any chance we will get an Xbox S Series in Black? Like I said aesthetics is the key factor right now.

Looks like the Xbox X series has to stand upright at all times.

According to Microsoft it's fine either way, but keeping it vertical would make me feel better. The cooling is clearly designed for that orientation.

With what I went through with the Xbox 360 hardware. It makes me uncomfortable just to think about having it horizontal. If I can figure out a way to make the Xbox X Series work vertically in my living room area I will get it. Until then I will have to go with the Xbox S Series.

I know this is strange, but it all comes down to size aesthetics for me. My GF gets me a console for Xmas usually. The biggest reason believe it or not that I am getting the Xbox Series S is because the Xbox Series X just won't fit in the media center under the mounted 4k Television.

Looks like the Xbox X series has to stand upright at all times. Where the Xbox S Series I can lay flat.
