I was sure not expecting a new monster so soon, much less something akin to a raid. I really hope this one is good!

@rorie: It's your kingmaker's power. The little dude makes the golden orbs. They don't explain it on a cutscene, but you can upgrade him to drop more orbs ( green and blue ones as well)

I might be wrong, ( because who f***ing knows anymore...), but if someone would make me show an example of what it looks like to be two steps behind, I'd show them that trailer.

@sombre: A good way to advance time and level up is to try and go do the dimensional door dungeons. They usually give you plenty of good stuff and there's a boss at the end.

Make sure you get all the citizens up to that point in the story also.

For both, double check you've been into all the available side dungeons ( forests, caves and shrines). Some are pretty hidden, but there you'll find a citizen quest, a dimensional door or a purple boss ( sometimes just a higgledy..). All things that help level you up and your kingdom.

Don't let it sit idle too much. I did and kinda broke the game...It is kinda depressing that you convince talented NPC to join your kingdom so they can "follow their dreams", only to send them to work in the mines since all research is done already.

It's good, but definitely under developed. If Ni no Kuni is a feature film, Ni no Kuni II is the direct to video sequel. The gameplay is much better IMO and the town building is quite addictive, so it's more about being a production issue than a core design one. Still, it does have a difficulty problem where most people might find it too easy.

It doesn't take too much analysing to see where corners got unfortunately cut. Some "arcs" are definitely more involved than others and some stories seem legitimately interesting, but they are told quickly and without a lot spectacle, for the most part.

Some things are so blatantly missing than they scream "DLC". Like a gigantic space ship that takes a big chunk of a whole continent that nobody even bothers to explain or react to, or the town in the Drylands that is simply gone, with some inhabitants showing up later after finishing the game...who apparently can time travel. Also a character that reveals that can mind travel through time as a quick explanation for anunimpressive mystery reveal.

@mems1224: Where did I say Rare lied? Rare revealed SoT in 2015 as a pirate game with limitless possibilites, and over three years not showing you a clear idea of what you'll actually do, allowing alot of folks to project what they though the game should be.

If Jeff and the Giant Bomb crew on SoT launch day were expecting a pirate rpg with skills trees and questing and their part of the industry it easy to imagin alot of others doing the same, which is exactly what happened to No Man's Sky.

If that was what they were expecting then that is completely their own fault. Rare was 100% transparent and honest about what was going to be in the game. If the GB dudes or anyone else gave zero shits about actually looking into what the game was before launch then that is on them. They outlined all the merchants and progression in December...

Loading Video...

This also means that everything that was actually in the game can be explained on a 7 minute video trailer. You have to cut folks some slack, that is rarely the case and not the most glowing thing you could say about any game.

Most games do give you an outline of what the game is about, sure, but games are also traditionally more than just the line that goes outside the idea. The problem here is about the lines that go on the inside ( The ones you discover by playing the game). Not saying those are not there, clearly there's some nuance for the pvp encounters, but there are not there for everyone and they didn't have to be rpg mechanics. They just had to be the lines that defined complexity rather than just show the silhouette.

So Violet Evergarden is appearing in Netflix pretty soon. Does anyone know if that was any good or is it just a lot of very pretty pictures?

I had it for a while where I'm from.

It is a slow show, very low key and emotional. Basically a "story a week" type where the plot is mainly about writing letters and meeting people. the main character is a trope, but a trope from your traditional shonen production taken into a more serious context. It doesn't get me excited like other shows, but I appreciate it for what its trying to do every time I watch a new episode.

Jeff's guess during the latest bombcast seems to have been correct. It was made specifically with streamers in mind. Not your everyday consumer.

I think they still intend for it to be a big and wide thing, but sure, most of the hype was propped up by streamers. It makes complete sense that if you played with people who are professionally entertaining, than you would have plenty of fun. Game doesn't come with those.

There's a Kraken tho! Interesting how it actually is just the tentacles without an actual body.

I also signed up for the free two week pass so I could give it a shot, played for around 3 hours on PC.

One thing I noticed right away was the griefing, I'd pull up to a port only to find people waiting to shoot on sight and steal my stuff or repeatedly spawn camp my ship. These were my only interactions with players, I never fired the first shot, I'd try to wave or communicate in text chat but they just wanted blood. Pretty boring encounters.

The griefing along with the fetch quest nature of the gameplay are making for a fairly monotonous experience so far. Shame because the game's gorgeous and the sailing is really fun. Ah well...

I only played 2, but same thing. Spent a bunch of time looking for chickens, got to port and got spawn camped. After that I spent most of my time circling around quest objective ports to drop cargo, waiting for ships to leave. I want this game to be fun so much, but I'm grasping at straws.

Think I only going to try and give it one last chance and matchmake into a larger crew. But like folks mentioned ( and the video explained) The game has 3 types of areas, 3 types of quests and the variation seems to be that you need to do "more" of the same. Like more items for your cargo laundry list, more skeleton bosses to kill or more steps to get to a buried treasure.

Ok I think I finally got mine. Now it is NOT an all damage affinity build like most people's, but I really liked the pink rathian set and I wanted to find a way to make it work somehow. So here:

-Royal Burst (GL)

-Artillery Charm III

-Rocksteady Mantle/ Vitality Mantle.

-Rath Heart set Beta with an alpha helmet.

With decorations the skills end up as: Poison attack 3, Artillery 3, Evade Extender 3, Tool Specialist 3, Windproof 1, Healthboost 1 and handicraft 1.

Now this is not the most damage efficient set like I mentioned, but tool assists means that you get to use the rocksteady mantle often enough to make up for it. Evade extender allows you to easily flank and you'd be doing most of the damage with artillery thanks to the burst part of the royal burst. Plus easy poison.

In general I'm happy I made something out of what I wanted rather than what the game wanted me to funnel me into for efficiency...But I do have the usual builds anyways to counter each elder dragon. So naturally I'll have attack 7 or elemental 5 depending on the elder. Tho for Vaal Hazak I made something that is all about health regen:

-Catastrophe's light ( IG)

-wyrmsbane charm II

-Full Vaal Hazak beta set, alpha helmet.

-A kinsect that does dragon element and creates health dust.

With decorations it ends up as: Dragon Attack 5, Defence boost 4, Health boost 3, peak performance 3, effluvia resistance 3, recovery speed 2, recovery up 1, attack 1.

Don't have but one attack gem, but getting more would have me replace the defence and recovery up ones for them. Leaving them on 6 or 7 if i also take out a health gem. The feet can then be replaced for "death stench beta" for handicraft and an extra slot. Peak performance 3 is maintained thanks to the Vaal regen skill and the health clouds( worth an attack 7 boost without the affinity). It's a lot of potential raw and elemental damage without affinity, but you are trying to do a lot of mounting damage with the IG, so you can't make much use of weakness exploit.
