Robots Suplexing Planes - My thoughts on the awesomest MOVIE ever

I know, I know, you must be full of questions now. “Why the plane was suplexed?”, “Suplex is a verb?”, “Crank had robots?” and the most important of all “WHAT MOVIE IS THAT!?”.
And to answer all of them in order: Why not?, It should be, No and… REDLINE. Not the 2007 movieThe Japanese one, which not only has ROBOTS SUPLEXING PLANES, but it also has gorillas riding tanks, racing, racing on water, racing on the walls, underground racing, underground racing (This time it’s literal.) and many more Japanese crazy you expect from an anime.
No Caption Provided
The art is amazing. The movie took seven years and over 100,000 hand-made drawings to make, so one could expect that the result would be fantastic.
And it is, because every motherhuggin’ frame is a goddamn wallpaper.
In the racing scenes, you will not only be amazed by the awesomeness of the thing, but also how BEAUTIFUL the awesomeness is. Also, I’ve just realized that I haven’t said a damn thing about the story of the movie… Well, it’s because the story is REDLINE’s only weak spot.
No Caption Provided

The story is not bad: A guy who fixes races for the mafia finds himself in the biggest racing tournament in the galaxy. Said race will take place in Roboworld (Or Boboworld, if you’re that kind of guy.) , and the president of the planet is willing to kill every motherfucker who tries to race in there. The guy wants to win. Like I said, it’s not bad. It’s just nothing special.
The characters are cool and every car is unique, so it feels  like an episode of Wacky Races. The characters even have introductions, and themes that range from annoying j-pop to super-hero like themes.
Even though Redline doesn’t have a unique premise, it is the best racing movie I’ve ever saw. If you like awesomeness, cars, anime, beautiful animation or you simply like cool movies, you MUST watch Redline.  Also, Robots Suplexing Planes:

My  printscreen doesn't do justice. But oh well, here it is: A Robot suplexing a PLANE.

This movie basically made me feel that I was watching a F-Zero movie. It's got the wacky characters and insane sense of speed and everything, though the story is, of course, just an excuse for the absurdly beautiful animation and the characters don't really have much going for them except "gotta win this race". That all being said, I dug it, and it goes so insanely off the rails at the end in the absolute best way possible. The climax just kept on getting more and more ridiculous. Good stuff.

Man, i love the ending. They keep surprising you in the best way possible. Like my 9-year old sister said when she was watching it: "Wow! It looks like Mario Kart! And F-Zero! ...Wow, it's so cool...".

I don't know if the DVD is out on the US yet, but you can watch the movie online here. It's 360p only, and the movie is awesome, so you definitely should try to get the DVD.

Looks like there's going to be a DVD/Blu-ray release of it mid-January, according to Amazon.

Just watched it. The animation is jaw-dropping. It's head and shoulders above anything I've ever seen, including Sword of the Stranger and Ghibli's stuff.

I just wish I could watch it on a huge cinema screen.

Yep, it's pretty amazing. It's a movie whose only purposes are: To be beautiful and over-the-top, and boy... It succeeds...

I really wanted to like this movie but the story was crap to me. I watched it in 1080p on a nice setup. Sure it looked good but it had no soul. I guess I'm not into anime anymore.

Oh, c'mon, saying that is like thinking you're not into gaming because you thought that Gears Of War "had no soul". I'm not trying to defend the movie, i just think that completely giving up on animes because of ONE MOVIE is dumb.

The Blu-ray version of The Incredible Hulk was in a green box; that was kind of awesome in a really stupid way.

Apparently there are ways to get around it. I wouldn't be surprised if Marvel (Or whoever Produced the movie) had to ask special permission from Sony or something, cause it's the only time I've ever seen a non-blue Blu-ray case before.

Not just one movie. I lived in Japan for 3 years. The novelty of the whole Japanarama otherness has been worn out for me which is the actual reasoning behind my disinterest. I stopped caring about JRPGs too. Once you learn all the intricacies and quirks of the society, everything loses its fun because you realize it's all the same thing over and over again. What attracted me to anime were the mature and interesting stories more than the visual style.

Oh, if that's the case, then i won't argue with you. Besides, i don't like anime very much, and when i like something, it's usually something extremely stupid and/or action heavy (Afro Samurai, Redline, Panty & Stocking), so i don't think my examples of "good anime" would bring you back to liking these things.  But it's a "shame" that you don't enjoy this stuff anymore.
