Proven countless times before http://www.psychology.iastate.edu/faculty/caa/abstracts/2000-2004/02BApspb.pdf

A less than 20% increase in violent responses?

And not in action - the study was having them play games and then suggest possible next steps/endings to an ambiguous story. It didn't increase aggression but simply increased the expectation of violence from a fictional character.

Some of the "violent" responses cited in that study include "Call the guy an idiot", "Tell her how dumb her stereo is", and other such mundane things.

That is sort of a shit study, in regards to video games and violence, if you take the time to read it.

edit: Also, most of the references to other studies cited in that one? Other studies done by the authors - basically using their own studies to reinforce further studies to produce a desired outcome. They should have gone to more outside sources to verify their claims and findings.

A game unfairly overlooked by many people, i played it and loved it.

Great article!!

As soon as you add animal-people a property becomes toxic.

Looney Tunes, Starfox, Jazz Jackrabbit, Ducktales - who cares about what childhood cartoon influences he could have actually been drawing from when he decided to go that route, people will just scream Furry and revile it without a second thought.

You apparently can't enjoy something if it might attract a weird and sorta unsavory fanbase, lest you run the risk of losing internet cred by being associated with them.

Though that's just some people, some of the more vocal in comments and threads. Some people just don't like the art style for whatever reason, which is a bummer but to each their own, but it kinda sucks that there are people skipping a good game over some bizarre knee-jerk reaction.

Wait. Were the fields with the "her small tits" and the like completely blank? Meaning the FB users filled it in?

Or were the choices provided by the app/Square themselves? Meaning users chose from a limited selection of answers? If so, hooooooooooooooly crap how was this idea ever brought up, thought about, developed, and approved?

I can't be sure but the picture looks like it was a drop down menu and not a blank field.

So they're banning people sooo watch how you disagree with Patrick's blog. He putting the hit on people. lol

Who was banned? I haven't gotten the feeling from these comments that people are angry about covering sexism (most people seem to agree it's bad), but that they're angry because of the way it's being covered on Giant Bomb.

I was given a warning and ban threat

Yeah, watch out how you disagree with Patrick.

If you spoil The Walking Dead while you do it, you might get a warning!

The thing is that nothing will happen because of this article except all of us having a heated conversation like this going back and forth for a while.

These women and their colleagues need to make an active stand if they want something to happen. I dont really think that someone having a facebook account will make the sexism in the workplace go away.

Someone needs to take the first step as Rosa Parks did.

Also Patrick could maybe also take a stand against Apple and other firms exploiting chinese factory workers. But then I guess this would make buying those sweet apple products impossible.

If that happened today the response would just be "That women and her colleagues need to make an active stand if they want something to happen. I dont really think that someone riding a bus will make racism go away. Someone needs to take the first step as John Brown did."

Are we really going to compare Rosa Parks to a weekend twitter hashtag campaign?

Apparently! I personally think it's absurd but here we are..

@EnduranceFun: Do you have an exact list of news organizations or specific journalists you need to see responses from before you're willing to acknowledge something?

Okay I´ll bite.

In a way American Ninja was right that these kinds of problems can be kinda considered to be first world problems. While the inequality of pay is a real issue in western countries there are far worse problems which women are facing all over the world.

1) Honor killings of women (according to wikipedia it is estimated that nearly 20000 women are killed each year

2) Child brides (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2216553/International-Day-Girl-Child-2012-Devastating-images-terrifying-world-child-brides.html)

quote from article "at age 11, Ghulam was married off to 40-year-old Jaiz in a rural Afghan village, making her only one of more than 10 million young girls who are being forced to wed men old enough to be their fathers or grandfather every year"

3) Child prostitution ( according to wikipedia)

"In India, the federal police say that around 1.2 million children are believed to be involved in prostitution. A CBI statement said that studies and surveys sponsored by the ministry of women and child development estimated that about 40% of all India's prostitutes are children

4) Mutilation of women as punishment for trying to run away from their husbands.

http://www.time.com/time/photogallery/0,29307,2007161_2235753,00.html

According to the latest news Saudi Arabia wants to put tracking devices on the women of that country so that their husbands can track their location despite where they are.

http://elitedaily.com/elite/2012/saudi-arabian-women-monitored-tracking-device-texts-husbands-leave-country/

So while there are indeed issues lets not make this problem appear bigger as it actually is.

So you want to see more articles about those issues on GiantBomb.com? Because that seems like it would be really outside of the scope of what Giant Bomb is: a video game website.

These articles are about the video game industry, on a video game website, which is why the focus is on something that is a first world problem - any problem related to video games is generally going to be a first world problem unless we start getting into the labour conditions of the workers who create the consoles and physical media, and the conditions of the people who have to produce the materials for that labour.

There ARE third world and developing world issues related to video games but you're generally only going to see discussion of first world problems on a video games website.

This has made The Guardian, Huff Post, Forbes and NBCNews. So all you misogynist creeps who don't want "sensationalist" stories like this (also, read what that actually means), shut the hell up. This is actual, real news now. So grow up a bit and listen, you're sexist little brains might learn something.

When lecturing people on how they hate women and are stupid, always remember proper grammar,

When lecturing people on how they should use proper grammar, remember to end your sentence with a period and not a comma.

@xMrSunshine: Maybe if he didn't want people to read his comment, he shouldn't have posted it?

When you post something in a public place, especially a forum or a comments section, you should have the expectation that people are going to see it.
