E74 error = Epic Fail

So the other day whilst playing Battlestation Pacific, the screen goes kinda funny and bizarre graphical glitches appear.  I'm not that bothered to be honest because I understand computers and realise that they do what they want, so I let it do its thing.
I started to pay slightly more attention when I went back to the dashboard and found it in pieces and moving of its own accord.  Again, I understand that it does what it likes but it felt like liberties were being taken now.
So it seemed my Xbox was broken.  Again.  And it was out of its 1 year warranty.  Again.
Thankfully, 5 towel wrapped xbox hours later, I get the E74 error message on my screen, meaning that I can send it to Germany for repair.

I have to say I'm thouroughly annoyed with Microsoft.  The Xbox has serious issues that still haven't been figured out (mine was a new version as of mid 2008) and it's pretty much unnaceptable. I am, of course, accepting it.
If I had the money though I wouldn't hesitate in purchasing a PS3.

What number of Xbox are you guys on?  I've heard rumours of people still rocking launch 360s...

My friend is still rocking a launch 360. I sold it to him, for an elite, little did I know a year later E74 on that elite. My friend still uses that launch day 360 without a hitch.

Bad times Unicorn.  There must have been a special batch of magical 360s that some people were lucky enough to get.

Hopefully they learn their lessons and the next generation Xbox isn't so poorly made.
Then again, this is microsoft we're talking about...

Man feel sad for you, i have been in that boat 2 times now, and for me thats 2 times way too many. After mine broke the second time i bought a PS3, and i have been playing all the multi platform titles on that since.

I have reached the state, where im afraid to use my 360 too much, you never know when the RRoD attacks. I used to be a Xbox defender back in the days of the old Xbox, but after getting a 360 and experiencing the faulty hardware, and reading peoples horror tales, i have nothing left for Microsoft's console. If mine breaks again, i won´t buy a new one, as a consumer i feel that i have to put my foot down at some point and stop taking it up the ass, cause thats what it feels like.

I'm on my second 360. I bought my first in May 2008 along with GTAIV, and it E74'd in February 2009. I was going to send it in for repair, but somebody stole it from my room at University. I got my second one in March, and it's still going strong now.

That's kinda how I'm starting to feel.  It's like, how far does Microsofts dick have to be up my ass before I realise they're screwing me?

@Mongoose:

Exactly, i know some people love their Xbox 360 and wont part with it, but instead will keep getting it repaired or buying new ones. But i mean at what point and coast is this acceptable?

When you read about people having their 360´s die on them 7 times, that in it self is quite  a feat, but why the keep tolerating it dying on them 7 times i will never understand.

My 360 has died 4 times, i stick with the 360 because i think it is the best console...i own a PS3, but i never use it...sure, it sucks to get the 360 fixed, or pay for a new one...but in the end, i think the consumers are going to stick with their favorite product, no matter what it takes...

I've been wondering where all the extra space has been coming from when I wipe my bum. I'll be on my 2nd by tomorrow.

Mine died once but I was fortunate enough that it was still under warranty.  So techinically I'm still on my first 360, knock on wood though, warranty is up.

I'm TECHNICALLY on my second 360. I bought a 20 gig, sold it when the Elite came out, and the Elite got the E74.  The reason I say it's still my second is because the first didn't break, and they sent the same Elite back to me. Can tell from the nice scratch my girlfriend's cat put in it.

Ha! Yeah, I have some "unique" markings on my Xbox so I'll be able to tell if the same one gets sent back.
It'll be interesting to see how fast the turnaround is.  I e-mailed UPS to arrange pickup of the deadbox and 45 minutes later there was a dude there to collect.  It's almost weird, but awesome too.
