I've always been interested in sci-fi 'visions of the future' - particularly for years that have already happened. For example, The Time Machine (released 1960) predicts that there will be nuclear war in 1964, Soylent Green (released 1973) predicts there will be tasty food rationing in 1999, and somewhat bizzarely Skynet becomes self-aware, HAL becomes operational and New York turns into a prison island... all in 1997.

So I wonder if anyone knows if there exists out in the interwebs any sort of timeline for the years in which sci fi movies and games are set? Are there any movies or games that are set in some dark dystopian 2011?

If not, is anyone else interested enough to help me compose such a timeline? I also wonder which piece of fiction is set in the furthest future..

Happens here too, on Chrome on Windows 7.

I actually had a surprising (and pathetic) amount of fun with this, trying to move my cursor really really fast to get to the download box, or then trying to move it really really slowly to catch it before it disappears, or then looking away and trying to catch it off guard. Didn't work - it's a tricksy one. Time well spent. Would play again. A+++

@Son_of_Nun: I totally agree. These sorts of stories are fascinating.
