@nickhead: It's always the same 70 gems. You basically MUST destroy the centipede before it dives down because it won't come back out until more spawners appear. You need all the gems off the centipede to get the 4 finger upgrade in a timely manner to deal with the flood of enemies and spiders that start spawning. With enough practice you should be able to get the 4 finger upgrade after destroying 2-3 spawn towers after having killed the centipede and collecting all his gems. (This implies you have collected every gem to this point, which isn't super hard) The centipede is easy once you know how to deal with him so just watch a replay. You basically kill the spider that spawns with the centipede, then lure the centipede up to you and as he flies overhead, just strafe him down.

And to whoever mentioned, I wouldn't leave any spawners alive for second waves, it's not worth it at all. Everything must die ASAP in devil daggers or it'll just stack up :)

I also had to come celebrate getting 424 seconds to reach #36 on the leaderboards...took a 5 hour play session and I have carpel tunnel in every finger.

I go by Moz on steam if anyone wants to add me, I finally beat my buddy today but it was close! He will overtake me again soon I think. And in case anyone was wondering, Brad's (rudds) is 171.3188 seconds as of Sunday evening. It's in the screenshot below.

@mithhunter55: the little blue daggers that shoot with right click? After you get that second upgrade collecting gems gives you more of those daggers to throw out. When you fire the daggers they basically seem to start homing towards the red gems on spawn towers or bigger enemies like spiders and horned skulls. they're pretty much essential although the #1 run on the leaderboards that guy barely uses them compared to the way I play....

I think a lot of the factory overclocked 970s can reach stock 980 speeds/power, plus it's cheaper. I have a 970 though so of course I'll want to defend that purchase. I will say that the 970 gets strained on 1440p and I end up dropping to 1080p for some games (like rise of the tomb raider and witcher 3). 1080p the 970 is fine, it can max rise of the tomb raider including the hair physics setting whatever it's called. Having bought the 970 last year I suspect I'll be tempted by the 2017 GPU models that are probably going to be quite powerful.

I did the config file tweak to get the frame rate higher and the game's been running solid on an overclocked gtx 970. I did notice a little stutter in the first cutscene but things have run fine, maybe an occasional hiccup while driving but I don't think I'm having the seemingly catastrophic issues other pc owners are having. I also have a 5+ year old first gen i5 750 CPU so...go figure.

Only played maybe 2 hours so far but it seems like it will be a fine game, I've always wanted to drive the batmobile in a game so that fanboyism is overriding any clunkiness about it :) I mean the first time I called the bat mobile after the tutorial it came barreling through a road divider and just looked badass!

1-3 are fantastic, unless I missed it I don't think anyone's commented on 2 having a fantastic soundtrack (subjectively one of my fave game soundtracks of all time). SH1 actually has a dark, more violent tone and story in my opinion and is very scary because of how dark and sprawling the world is. SH2 just looks amazing and still holds up so well visually, gameplay just a bit bleh. I think you need to play SH1 to truly appreciate the story of SH3; it's a great game too but the story is perhaps more convoluted than 1 and 2 while also not being particularly interesting to me. Also, SH3 marked the beginning of them trying to add more "combat" to the series and so you end up fighting alot more enemies in 3 which is very much not the strong suit of the series; this makes for a more laborious play through experience if you ask me compared to 1-2.

I'm happy to join the chorus of folks saying to play 1-3, with SH2 taking the cake for a variety of reasons personally.

@ofx360: At the end of the first level you see yourself being dragged away with your arm lying dismembered on the ground next to you so I think you were already supposed to be aware your arm was gone, but I agree I'm not sure they were hoping for the player to actually feel anything.

Just a way of showing that the character you were playing as felt something...which makes it even more baffling that your character is mute during gameplay. Why try to make him appear human by placing his hand on a coffin and then immediately have him turn around and have a 1-way conversation with Kevin Spacy?
