Black Ops

08/11/2010

Call of Duty: Black Ops just came out and I'm at home for a few days, leaving all my gaming at my house near university. I really want to be completing old games that I've not finished yet but Borderlands is being put on hold for a bit. Once I'm back at uni, I'll give the Black Ops campaign a playthrough or two on various difficulties and play multiplayer for a while, then get back to Borderlands.

Which brings me to the multiplayer issues - every now and then I get a few second periods of lock up, sometimes it happens rarely, sometimes every 5 seconds making multiplayer games unplayable. Other people say they get the same issue but I seem to witness the lags more often - hopefully it's not due to my computer since I built it new recently, and hopefully it's not the internet because that has enough problems with it being capped to 0.1 Mbps half the time... maybe it'll be patched and fixed soon.

Overall from what I've seen from a few hours of Black Ops multiplayer (haven't touched the campaign yet), it plays pretty similarly to Modern Warfare 2. The maps seem good, but I haven't yet played enough to tell whether they actually are well designed or I just haven't played them to death yet. In terms of matchmaking, despite GameServers.com being the only providers of dedicated servers, at least there are some. Hopefully the lag everyone was raging about while playing online yesterday was just a day 1 issue and will disappear over time and through patching.
