It is just a sequel, what is the big deal about taking years to kick this out the door?

I'm still holding out hope for Warhammer 40K. They are looking for a partner to help finish it. I hope they have something decent to show, or it will be tough finding anyone. But doesn't Gamesworkshop own the franchise and could they give the game to some else to finish?

Never played SWTOR. I would check this game out if it were free to play. It would be worth a download and maybe drop a few bucks in the cash shop if I liked it. But I am not interested enough to put down the price of the box plus $15 a month to play it. I don't love the IP enough and the game doesn't seem to be all that exceptional, which a game has to be before I will drop $60 to play it.

I first played this game right after the Godslayer expansion came out. Really enjoyed playing for several months, maybe a year. Took 2 characters to max level, both Barbs. Wasn't able to get into end game content that much, so I left subbing off until some more PvE content rolls out. But there is plenty of end game stuff to do if that's your thing.

I think it is a pretty fun MMO. I love the Conan IP and the way Funcom have brought Howard's stories to video game format. The game is probably the best looking MMO out right now. Graphics, lighting are exceptional. The realistic art style is sweet as well, the whole world is rendered in a way that makes it a pleasure to play in. Character motion quality is fluid and natural, on your character and the NPCs. Horse and rider animation is outstanding. Far better done that Skyrim IMO.

There is a load of PvE content through out the leveling process. So much to see and do that I don't think it possible to do it all and see it all taking just 1 character to max level. Funcom continues to pour a lot of effort into this game. Dreamworld engine revamps, beautiful new play areas. The combat is engaging. Excellent music score. Overall I enjoy playing this game, years after a rough launch it has become a polished product shining in all its DX10 glory!

I think you bought the game and were hoping some of the "big" people in this industry would help validate your purchase by saying it's one of the best games of the year.

Not me. I haven't played the game at all, not during beta and not since launch. All I know about TOR is what I read in press releases and on the different forums. I watched the Quicklook, and really that is the most exposure I have had to the actual game. I am not a huge Star Wars fan, but if the game was pretty special I might check it out anyway.

Then why the fuck did you make this stupid thread for you moron?

There is nothing stupid or moronic about my topic or any of my replies. I made a simple observation about a MMO that shipped with more press hype than any game in recent memory, excepting maybe Halo. How many responses in this thread have come to the games defense with good reasons why the game lives up to all the pre release anticipation? Is that too hard to do? It is much easier I suppose to declare the OP a moron and all the editors who overlooked it as disinterested in Star Wars and MMO haters. Who is displaying the moronic behavior here?

Defend the game by posting good reasons why it is worthy of a subscription. Give us reasons to want to check this game out.

Buy the fastest card with the most ram on it you can afford. I have never bought a video card and thought, this is more card than I really needed. I shoulda save my money and got a slower / cheaper card.

@p00rdevil: in general it's way past the cut off. came out on like the 20th of december AND it's an mmo meaning hundreds of hours to even get the gist of it.

Beyond cut off I can understand, but it really does not take hundreds of hours in order to get the gist of a MMO. 20 or 30 hours would be plenty to get a decent impression overall. At least for the bulk of the leveling content, and things like animation, combat, music, graphics etc.

And you're surprised? really?

Yea I think it is kind of surprising. Not that it wasn't picked as anyone's top GOTY, but that it did not even make anyone's list of top 10 favorite games that they played. I understand that the game launched late in the year, but still there was enough time to play it for a few days and have it make an impression on you. Something like, I haven't played a lot of this game but what I have played was outstanding. The Star Wars universe was nailed, and the story drew me in. Best MMO experience I have encountered in the early going in a long time, maybe ever. This is the kind of review I would expect after following some of the pre release hype. I am kind of surprised that no one on giantbomb has taken much note of it. I remember World of Warcraft actually made PC Gamer's GOTY. I also remember reading in the letters to the editor how upset some were that they picked a MMO for the honor. Just for the record I am not playing any MMO at the moment. I played WoW for 9 months after launch then quit for good. I have recently quit Age of Conan, but had a blast with it taking 2 characters to max level. I am just not much into end game content, so I am done with it too.

Not one editor on Giantbomb has TOR listed among their top ten games of the year. This game launched with a boat load of hype and expectation. Bioware, Star Wars, that it would introduce a meaningful story unlike anything in the MMO genre. They brought in Jaffe and Kasavin to weigh in on their favorite games of the year, and neither of them acknowledged it either.
