the best games of all time

this list is probably gonna be a lot different than other lists like this.

List items

  • MM is, in my opinion, the best game ever. It took everything about OoT(which many consider to be the best ever) and improved upon it with better graphics, an infinitely better story, and the most engaging characters and side quests to ever appear in a zelda game. the three day time limit which link must repeat over and over again (can anyone say "groundhog day"?) adds a sense of urgency and peril throughout the game in a series where by the end of the game you are a walking arsenal of death and destruction. It adds a lot being able to take detours to see how the huge and diverse cast spend their "last" days alive and how you can help them cope with their inevitable deaths. With a gripping story, amazing game play and an ominous tone, Majora's Mask is truly masterful.

  • The efforts of one man over 5 years come together to create a near perfect video game experience. Inspired by Mario, Metroid, Castlevania, and Zelda, Cave Story is a game that has incredible charm from the moment it starts. The gameplay, music, characters, and story are all fantastic. Cave Story has a charm reminiscent of nostalgia. The beauty of this game is that this was a single man's vision come to life. Instead of the usual large grouped game developers, where publishers and business get in the way, Cave story succeeds because of this one man's ability to put his soul into this game. This is a game everyone needs to play.

  • OoT is usually the chart topper on most peoples lists but for me it gets the silver medal. it is a fantastic zelda game with a fantastic story everything about it is seemingly perfect... until its sequel was released.

  • MGS is one of the most polished games i have ever played. this game is still impressive now. The Voice acting still holds up today and is better than most games coming out now. Everything about it is just perfection. i don't really know how to explain it. (and im quite tired)

  • This game IS my childhood and it is also the best pokemon game. It is also twice as long as any other pkmn game ever released i don't really have to say anything else..

  • this is the best SRPG i have ever played. Instead of controlling nameless faceless soldiers you have control over a limited cast of highly developed characters. Some of the Main appeal of Fire Emblem is the deep and gripping story that they all have. Another staple is that there is an amazing replay value.

Also one of the biggest points of the FE games is that once a character dies, they are dead, forever. No, you can’t bring them back. What’s done is done. This adds an extra emphasis on not being an idiot and charging into everything. Along with a conversation system it allowed you to get bonuses and unlock different endings for different characters. The games main battle system is often described as rock, paper scissors, as an example Sword beats Axe, Axe beats Lance, and Lance beats Sword, (also the same for Magic, with Light, Dark, and Anima) BUT that is not where it ends.

Certain weapon stats, type of weapons (Armorslayer, Lancereaver, etc.), and the environment have an effect, along with the obvious character stats. Also these games have a steep challenge.

sacred stones improves on everything in the series with a huge character customization tree and ridiculous replay value.

  • the most beautiful rpg i have ever played. the sprite artwork and the music are of god-like status. the gameplay is fast and always makes you think quickly. you cant call yourself an RPG fan without playing chrono trigger.

  • this game holds some of my best video game memories. in the early 2000s my friend and i went back to this game on the SNES and played through co-op. so much fun.

  • sonic 3 with the sonic and knuckles cartridge expansion is the best sonic game. sonic has had some rough time recently but if you go back and play this game you will realize why sonic has so many fans that feel betrayed by SEGA's recent releases.

  • despite most other RPG fan's claims the VII is the best. i think that VI had more likable characters, beautiful sprites( as opposed to the shiity polygonal blocks of VII), and a really fun battle system.

i did enjoy the materia system of VII more than the esper system of VI though.

  • this game is the classic of classics. the perfect example of an excellent 8-bit game. with rock solid gameplay and a refreshing difficulty, mega man 2 should never be forgotten.
