The Mega Man Opera

How many reasons can there be that make me regret not going to PAX 2010? Well, there's the announcement of Duke Nukem Forever finally finishing up and releasing. There being a playable demo set up with all the Duke charm and pissing in urinals. A lot of panels, meet and greets and free gear which I would probably more specific and excited about had I gone. The one thing I did not expect to appreciate was the music.
I have a growing interest in specific Video Game music like Sabrepulse and other chiptune related songs, but a band from PAX2010 has got me playing their album over and over. The Protomen have a really kicking 80's music style and their lead singer just evokes so much emotion. Both of their albums, the self titled The Protomen and Act II: The Father of Death tell the story of Mega Man. I thought the story of Mega Man was pretty simple, but if you start listening, you'll see Dr. Light, Dr. Wily, and Mega Man in a whole new light.
I was lured into The Protomen with "Light up the Night" and thought it was really good. I kept digging and trying to sing along to the lyrics...and that's when I got hooked. The second Album goes from Dr. Light being framed for murder, Dr. Wily rising to power, The death of a hero and the rise of another one. With the 80's music and singer, it just feels like an epic experience.
I've probably been building this band up too much so I'll let you guys be the judge. Here's their website to listen to the Act II album and here's a video mash-up of Cashern and The Protomen's "Vengeance."
