Nerdboy Blog: 11 - Dead Space, LBP and R2 Beta!!!!!

Dead Space:

Ok so I seem to have a knack for saying things too early.  In a previous blog I said I won't be able to see The Dark Knight for a week or so....that night I went to see The Dark Knight....a few days ago I posted a blog saying....I didn't know how or when I'd be able to get my hands on Dead Space...a few hours later BOOM Dead Space.  I would post impressions right now but I'll save it for my review.  Just want to say that right now it's the second best game I've played this year....right behind THE MGS4.

LittleBigPlanet Delayed:

We've all heard by now.  We've all been saddened by this event.  But this is more towards the people saying "SONY FAIL" or "I'M CANCELING MY PREORDER!".  Seriously?  It's one freaking week!  Heck we've all been saying "I don't know how i'll be able to play all these games right now!  Well guess what....now you've got a week to play some of the games you've just got.  But seriously as much as it stinks I think Sony is doing the right thing.  They are going out of their way to make sure that people are happy.  And that's just awesome.  I know I've been waiting for LBP for a very long time but I've just gotten Dead Space, the R2 Beta, WipEout HD and Megaman 9.  Not to mention I still have to beat Disgaea 3!  That extra week is going to bother that much cause I still have a lot of things to be playing.  So during this next week just play the games you've been playing...heck go out and BUY DEAD SPACE.  You owe it to yourself to play that game.

R2 Beta:

This is the part where I would post impressions but I've already posted them in the R2 Beta impressions thread so check it out here...it's the very last post on that page :D

Nerdboy Blog: Special 10th Blog Edition

Drawing:

So I was sitting in school today (my computer class) and got very bored....so bored in fact that I started drawing all over what was supposed to be my notes.....well below is what came from that.

Boredom is your friend :D
Boredom is your friend :D
Now let me explain just what exactly you are looking at.  Some of this stuff is an inside joke between a friend and I.  The top (Sun part) has two people who have just toilet papered their friends trailer.  They are about to be hit by a nuke.  All the while their friend is chained to a car that is driving off a cliff into a pit of fire!  Now rotating to the China side of things we see a man being hit by lightning, while being shot by someone parachuting, while the parachuting man is about to fall into a pit of fire as well.  Now on the inside it should be a bit easier to see whats going on.  Basically everyone is dying in this drawing....then there is the devil guy in the middle of it all....seriously I have no idea where this came from....I do not condone death or support the devil in any way.....now that that is over lets move to GAMES!

Dead Space:

I've been doing everything humanly possible to track this game down.  I currently don't have the money to buy it so my choice was Blockbuster or Hollywood video...neither have it in their system....I was going to turn in some games that would give me enough money for Dead Space at that horrible horrible place called Gamestop but they were sold out.  The only place that has it around me is Best Buy.....I'm currently formulating a master plan to get this game...cause even with the onslaught of games I'm about to be getting I simply must play this!

Bioshock....2?!?!?!:

Yeah, you've probably heard but upon completing the PS3 version of Bioshock a certain special trailer is unlocked.  Hoping to be able to finally play Bioshock soon....or wait till Christmas and buy it then.  Either way...this is definetely pretty interesting...and can't wait to here more!

The Condition of our Wallets:

Lets face it.  With next tuesday offering us games like LittleBigPlanet, Fable 2, Bioshock, Far Cry 2, and God knows what else we are...or should I say our wallets are shaking in their boots.  The week following that throws at us Fallout 3 and then the week after that Resistance 2 and then Gears of War 2....needless to say the next three weeks are going to be some of the best of the year!  I've got LBP, Fallout 3 and R2 reserved and ready for me to pick up day of release.  How about you?  And how is your wallet coping with all of this?

Well I think that's about it for this time.  Other special mentions go to Firmware 2.5 finally allowing me to watch gametrailers on my PS3!!!!!!!  WipEout is still awesome...I finally beat a boss in MegaMan 9.....and I need to pick up Disgaea 3 again and beat it before I get lost in a LittleBigPlanet :D

Nerdboy Blog: 09 - LBP Beta, Megaman, WipEout HD OH MY!!!

LittleBigPlanet Beta

So last week I hit a stroke of luck and managed to snag a LBP Beta code.  And all I have to say is WOW I can't wait till the full game.  It's somehow found a way to meet up with my expectations.  The story side of the game is great.  When playing with a friend of mine we had loads of fun finding the secret items, listening to the narrator and of course slapping each other around!  Creating is great.  I feel limitless right now...and I barely have a small portion of the amount of items that are in the game that you can use!  While it does take some time to learn how to use create mode and at first it can seem a little overwhelming I found that very quickly I was able to start making stuff very easily.  But from what I've seen so far Sharing is where this game is going to shine the most.  The first few days there were some ok levels, some not so good levels, some test levels, and then there were some freaking amazing levels.  But now there are more and more levels showing up that are amazing and less that are not so good.  I have to give a special shout out to whoever made some of the favorites.  Being one that was a shadow of the collossus themed level, a level that had a Metal Gear in it and then the "Heist" levels.  Some really great stuff.  Not to mention the pinball and space invaders level.

MegaMan 9

So yesterday I downloaded MegaMan 9 off of the PSN store.  I remember back in the good old days of elementary school I was completely wrapped up in such games as MegaMan and Sonic.  MegaMan 9 however was one of those games I just never got a chance to play so I figured....now was a great time!  Thirty minutes after starting up the game I was ready to strangle my little blue friend.  I missed jumps, hit spikes, and was killed by an elephant more times than I could count.  In fact I mentioned to a friend of mine....I remember playing MegaMan when I was little...and I did just fine....do I, as a gamer, suck more now than when I was 8?  I guess we'll find out soon enough as I'm not willing to put the game down.  It's still great no matter how frustrating and it reminds me of the good old days....all of like 8 years ago....

WipEout HD

I vaguely remember playing one of the older WipEout games but only a few times.  Yesterday along with MegaMan I got this as well.  And after having played a good few hours of it....I have to say that I love this game.  The action is very much fast paced, it's got custom soundtracks, zone mode is freaking awesome, it's got custom soundtracks, it reminds me of the Speed Racer movie(which I LOVED), it's got custom sound tracks, zone mode gets pretty crazy fast after a while, oh and it's got this thing called custom soundtracks!  I could rant and rave about how no one seems to want to support custom soundtracks after firmware 2.4 but I won't.  I understand why a lot of games don't support it.  But seriously.  I've been wanting a good racing game for my PS3 and WipEout HD is THAT game.  Zone mode, which by the way is awesome, alone will keep me playing plus it's got a good amount of trophies that I guess I'll have to try and get even though I'm not too big on them anyways....but I MUST GROW BEYOND LEVEL 1!

I did have about 7 or so dollars left on my account though after getting MM9 and WipEout so I finally was able to get Wild Arms from the PSONE Classic section.  Played Wild Arms 3 and really liked it so I've been wanting to try this one out as well.  I haven't got a chance to play it yet though.  Currently trucking along with Disgaea 3, LBP Beta, MM9 and WipEout so obviously my hands are just a little full right now!  But oh well...it's a good time to be a gamer :D

Nerdboy Blog: 08 - Qdoba, Chrome and Disgaea 3.....

First Qdoba.....my friends and I first discovered this place back in Febuary and March.  Ever since then it has been THE place that I choose.  Usually I'd go once or twice a month however since school has started I've been going an insane amount.  6 times in the past 13 days!  I think i'm set for a long time...heck the people there know who I am and will probably know my regular soon!

Chrome is pretty cool.  You know Google's new browser.....I don't think it could ever replace Firefox...but it is pretty darn fast...like really fast.  But I'm using it right now and it does work overall really really well.  There's only like 1-2 things I could really complain about and that is I can't figure out how to do RSS feeds like I have with Firefox and a few other things but nothing all that major.

And then there's Disgaea 3....just got this Saturday....my first Disgaea....and I'm now wondering why I let these games pass me up!  I won't say much yet since I won't to play more of it...but WOW is this game amazing!  Insanely in depth and really really great battle system.  This is also my first SRPG.  Plus I'm loving the story.  Really funny game. :D

That's all I got....

Nerdboy Blog: 07 "I Am Alive"

So you've probably seen the trailer for I Am Alive.  If not it's here.

Sure it's not going to look that amazing graphically and sure it's another survival game...but the more I think about this....this could be an amazing game.  I mean sure we've all played the survival horror game where you've got to worry about zombies around ever corner and all that good stuff.  But this time things are different.  An earthquake in Chicago throws the few survivors left into a free for all.  Leaving everyone for themselves or to possibly form alliances in order to survive.  Now I don't know how the gameplay will work but lets just imagine the possibilities for a second.

You're in the middle of Chicago and an earthquake strikes.  Leaving many dead, a lot more people trapped, and others who while injured are suddenly faced with the realization that survival must be first on the mind.  As you saw in the trailer a simple bottle of water became something worth fighting over.  Which makes me think what other implications could this have.  First lets start with the moments just after the earthquake is over.  Chicago is destroyed and you begin to hear cries of help from people all around trapped.

Everything could be given to you from the start and everything you do affects everyone.  You could help some people out from under fallen debris or care only for yourself.  If you help people you can form an alliance like the three guys we saw in the trailer.  Potentially this could make surviving easier as they may be willing to help you out.  But helping the wrong people could pose bad as they may forget about your health and take all the water and food scraps for themselves.

At the same time you have hundreds of others doing everything they can to survive.  Potentially you could run into other alliances or other people who chose to go it alone.  And most certainly you'd run into people who may try to steal something from you if it helps them to survive.  If things are set up correctly there may not even be a set storyline.  It starts with the earthquake and ends with either your death or your survival.

Now of course you'd think that with something like this happening that people would be sent to help survivors...and this could be the case but I think there may be something that is later explained that causes people to be unable to get into the city.  However if troops are sent to help this could up the ante for survivors.  Ideally things would become hostile very fast.  Even if it only takes one day for troops to arrive someone would be unhappy and some may even turn against their "rescuers".

In the end it's all up to you and mostly you to survive.  Sure you'll be able to help others and try to form alliances but you'll have to be careful about who you choose.  Can you trust them or will they deceive you?

So lets say the game goes through periods of days.  At the end of each day you have a choice.  Do you find a place to sleep knowing that at anytime in the night the little food you have could be stolen or do you continue to roam around trying to find as much scraps of food as possible but taking the penalty of losing energy (which could consequently cause controlling your character in the game harder).  With sleeping you'll have to find a hideout.  Some place that you can stay that no one will find you.  A place where you can keep valuables key in keeping you alive.  In fact, if you've formed alliances, you'll have to decide to reveal your hideout to them, taking your trust into consideration.  Each day things will get worse as well.  The amount of food is depleting fast, you have to be careful about just how far you travel since you can't eat too much and your energy will not stay high.

Now think about this.  Remember when 9/11 happened.  People knew they wouldn't make it out of the tower in time so they jumped out the window.  Could it be possible that some will be driven to insanity in the game and make that "jump"?  No longer are we playing a survival game with zombies to worry about.  We're stuck in Chicago with people just like us that have been driven to the edge and scared that when they go to sleep they won't wake up.  Or fear that they won't find the food they need.  And what happens if they can't find food?  Suddenly that sleeping man across the street doesn't look so bad.  As the days pass people get more and more violent.  Different types of people come out.  The people that go alone, the ones that team up, the crazy people who will kill if it means food for another day and others who don't want to go another day and "jump".

And what of the "rescuers" that are sent to essentially save the day?  That all depends.  If you want saved you may want to be there when the crazy people decide to kill the meaty soldiers sent to help them.

So lets get to how this would all end.  There would be hundreds maybe thousands of storylines...except it would all end two ways.

Survival:  No matter how it is you manage to survive it would probably end something like this.  Weeks have passed and now you are one of the few....with many news reporting that none are found to have survived the cleanup continues with no one expecting to find anyone walking.  Yet there you come....out from a building limping your way towards some guards.  You're taken away in a helicopter and a camera angle shows us the entire city....for the first time we see what the entire city looks like from over head.  I'd imagine this to be like seeing the nuke go off in COD4.  And that's the last we see of it.

Death:  Obviously if you died you'd be able to restart from a save point but who's to say we have to have a Game Over screen.  Perhaps if you die we see a scene like when the clean up team comes in and finds your body.  This way we get to see just how the city turned out after you died.

I'm not saying this is how its going to be, heck this probably reads more like a list of things I want in it.  I'm just going to leave it at this could be how this game plays out.  In this article the developer says they want to make this very realistic...and I think this could be one way for them to do so.  This isn't how it has to be either...if you've got another idea do tell I'd like to hear and if not what do you think of this one I've posted?  Hopefully we learn more about I Am Alive soon.  But until then I'll leave all of the above to a big "I hope it's like this".

Again what do you think?  Will it be like this?  Do you think that some of this stuff is even possible in the next gen?  Or do you have a few ideas yourself about what this game will be like?

Nerdboy Blog: 06

So, Madden.  It came out today.  Being a 2K5 fanboy and EA hater....I expected the worse.  But I can honestly say that after having a friend bring over the game and playing through just one game that I am pleasantly surprised.  I originally downloaded the demo and thought to myself "this isn't all that bad".  But after just going through a full game and noticing some of the new stuff included I'm excited to go out and rent it for myself and go through a season.

But lets get to the more important stuff...Head Coach 09 :D  I seem to be one of the few that actually like the first game and so when I heard about this version I was super excited!  I haven't got a chance to play it but do plan on picking it up when it releases on September 3rd.  So far I've only heard a couple things about it, seeing as for the people who got the collector's edition are mainly focusing on Madden, but they've been really good.  Also it seems this game is going to be really in depth.  Hopefully it turns out good.

Anyways...with the shocking revelation that I may actually like a Madden game I was talking to my friend about what they may mean for future releases.  It definetely seems that Madden 09 is a HUGE jump in the right direction which is good.  We wondered if people like me who hate most anything that comes out of EA may actually be able to warm up to their new stuff.  I don't know....maybe it's just that after coming to terms that the NFL License will always be EA's I'm hoping that EA can put out a NFL game that I actually like.  So for now with the new Madden I'm definetely hoping that the next Madden's in the coming years continue stepping in the right direction....but this is EA...so you never know.

Have you guys played it?!?!?!?!?!  What do you think about this year?

P.S. Redskins and Bengals all the way! :D

Nerdboy Blog: 05 I'm Back!

So I just got back from Sparta......New Jersey about 2-3 hours ago.  We stayed about an hour out of NYC this past week.  Had some great times this past week but I'm very happy to finally be home.  Not to mention coming home to some great news.  Greatest Hits PS3 titles are out apparently!  FFXIII demo with Advent Children...and it goes on.  So yeah just figured I'd let you all know I'm back and ready to get back into posting.

So other than the obvious stuff anything else I may have missed?

No Dark Knight today :(  Which is made worse by the fact that I'll be leaving for New York early Sunday!  ARGH!  Oh well.  I get back from New York next Sunday...hopefully I don't miss too much on Giant Bomb.  Any way I finally got my cheeseburger today!  Man it was sooooo good too.  :D

In other news I've got submissions sitting on 3 days.....THREE!  Man I would hate to have those guy's jobs.  At this rate they'll be swamped throughout the next year.....ok maybe not that long.  I'm sure things will start to pick up once people hit 1000.

Also came across something pretty funny today.  I don't have the link.  But on the a playstation forum some guy was talking about how he bought the new Siren game.  Well apparently on his msn siren-bloodcurse@hotmail.com was added and gave him cryptic messages.  What looked to be something really cool turned out to be just the guy's friend messing with him.  The guy said his hotmail was what he signed up with for the psn and that would have been how the game had gotten it or something.  Can't remember...but I thought it was pretty funny.

Anyway this is my last blog till I return from New York...so I'll talk to ya all at some point later....maybe....just maybe.....

EDIT!!!! Turns out I got to see the Dark KNight!!!!  OMG AMAZING!

Stating the obvious here but Giant Bomb is amazing.  I finally got some points today!  Oh yeah!  In other news that Penny Arcade game is coming to the PSN.  I played the demo on my friend's 360 and really enjoyed it.  And it's Penny Arcade so you know it's awesome.  So really looking forward to that.

I've been craving a Hamburger these past few days.  I guess that's what the Hamburger forum does to ya though.

Plus that Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer slipped out.  HOW AWESOME DOES THAT LOOK!

Anyway, Giant Bomb = AWESOME and Addicting.  Also one more thing I'd like to add.  How nice is it being able to not have to worry about mobs of fanboys running around?  At least I haven't seen any fanboys on the site.  I really hope that lasts here.  *knock on wood*
