I saw on the forums the other day that a fellow user had joined the site I created, and wrote about it a little bit here:

http://www.giantbomb.com/forums/general-discussion/30/rating-games-by-how-i-felt-when-i-played-them-or-how-i-feel-now/566402/

I thought I'd share here what I've made in case anyone else was interested, or if anyone wanted to share some feedback.

The basic premise of grouvee is to be a Goodreads for video games. You can create virtual "shelves" and rate/review games that all come from the GiantBomb API. You can friend users, and see updates in your activity feed when they do something on the site. I know that darkadia is a similar idea, but I just thought I'd show you guys my twist on it.

Let me know what you think.

I've actually built grouvee.com to do something like this. It's meant to be a goodreads for video games, and it's based on the Giantbomb API. If you want to help me with design stuff, send me a PM here, and we can talk. This is an example of what a collection looks like: http://www.grouvee.com/user/peter/shelves/

Let me know what you think.

If you factor in the cost of space on your memory card, large games like Uncharted: Golden Abyss are actually more expensive digitally, even with their discount, than they are in their retail forms. 32GB card is $99, which is roughly $3 per GB. Uncharted is a 2.7GB download, which equals roughly $8.10. $44.99 + $8.10 = $53.09. The retail version only requires 64MB, which is only about 20 cents. The retail version is actually cheaper in that case.

Suck on that math!

Except this doesn't factor in taxes, which is not present on PSN. Here, sales taxes are 14.5%.

Forgot about the tax thing I suppose. Although I buy everything from Amazon, so that kind of negates the sales tax for me. They haven't been forced to charge state sales tax in my state yet...

What are everyone here's thoughts on metacritic? Do you guys care much about the scores there? Do you care much about review scores in general?

The reason I ask is because I've been working on building a new site that's a video game review aggregator, but more in the vein of  rotten tomatoes than metacritic or game rankings. Basically, rotten tomatoes does their scores not by averaging together the review scores like metacritic does, but by giving you the percentage of critics that liked a movie. So if a movie has 80% on rotten tomatoes, it doesn't mean that the average review was 4/5 stars, it just means that 80% of their sampled critics gave the movie a positive review. If a game has an 80% on metacritic, it roughly means that the average review was 8/10 (They have a weighting system for bigger outlets, but roughly speaking this is fairly accurate).

I've gotten pretty far along building a site that aggregates video game scores like rotten tomatoes, and wanted to do a sanity check. I feel this way of aggregating reviews gives a better representation of reviewer opinions than an average does. I also think review scores are kind of dumb, and really just want to know if the reviewer thinks a game is worth my time and money. Does this seem like a good idea to anyone? I don't want to put the name of the site in this post because I don't want to sound spammy or promotional, I just wanted to know if this seems like a decent idea, a stupid one, or just kind of meh?
