Nothing says thoughtful critique like calling something “game of the decade” before it is even released for the public to play. Strong editorial team at digital spy.
I immediately purchased it as soon as I saw that Kalle Plague at Game Spot gave it a 7/10. Her viewpoint on games is usually the opposite of my own. Plus I never get offended by video games and she seems to be very sensitive and gets offended, which seems strange to me. I have yet to be offended by a video game, movie, or any other type of entertainment *knock on wood*.
The toughest Gamer has logged on how much he loves to buy buggy messes and ”accidently” misspell people’s last names.
The waypoint podcast is real good and the review makes me more interested in checking it out when it isn't broken.
Edit: Patrick talks about how CDPR did themselves no favors by sending this out early and having a weird embargo. How the reviews were always going to be a bit half baked because the reviewers didn't have time to do solid work.
It is worse than ever before, from a guy who has been in it since the 1990s. Social media has really give companies the ability to get people "invested" to a level that rivals sports fandom. And not like "I like the local team" levels. More akin to "local soccer team loses, so now riots happen" levels of investment. The difference is that when a sports team loses, no one blames the press covering the game for the loss. In video games people beclown themselves by attacking the reviewer for reporting that The Video Game is, in fact, not the best.
As promised, smooth brains have logged on to complain about rushed reviews and “agendas“. Because in 2020, the gamer still expects reviews to avoid the dreaded “politics”. Especially when it comes to the extremely not political setting of cyberpunk.
@colourful_hippie: We are going to have to wait a good 3-5 months to have a meaningful discussion about the game itself, let alone reviews. The hype cloud for this game is blocking out the sun.
Then again, I saw someone on Twitter quote her paragraph about how poorly the game handles the trans issues it begs to be discussed with the number of "mix it up" adverts with just the reply "valid criticism LOL" /s, so some people just suck.
Expect to see so much of this in the coming days, as the Gamers with the smoothest brains log-on to the discourse. This week in Video Game liking is going to be insufferable.
Pour one out for the reviewers warning folks this game is a buggy, hot mess that may not be able to be fixed by a day one patch. I do not envy them right now.
I’ve been watching Anne Munition for years and she always struck a good balance between interacting with chat and clicking on heads. And she has powerful “fuck around and find out” energy when it comes to chat, which I think is key to being a good streamer. Gotta establish those boundaries and keep them fresh for all to see.
