@infinite_zero00: My personal favourite is that one of the later parts of the manga has"Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" in it, translated as "Atrocious Acts At Affordable Prices". The translations definitely get more and more ridiculous as time goes on.

I've had a really shitty couple days, and just six minutes into this video it feels like all the built-up stress and sadness has completely washed away. I'm smiling and feeling great. It may be a bit weird to say this after watching a man try to sell bananas for a videogame gameshow for six minutes, but I legitimately really appreciate this. Thanks, beasters.

I don't remember Zaeed's mission being this dull. Like, I remember loving the possibility of having him not be loyal after it being really cool and unique, but the actual story is just such... nothing? Hopefully the rest of them aren't this disappointing. Surprised that there's bits of the game that aren't as I remember, I beat it at least six times (one for each class) on the highest difficulty alone. You'd think that after that much time spent it'd be deeply ingrained in my memory (especially considering the game's not even thaaaat old), but I guess the human brain is even more fallible than I give it credit for.

I forgot how good Kasumi's loyalty mission is... and it's not even one of my favorite loyalty missions! I know I'm not the first person to say this, and I know I won't be the last, but this series is really making me want to play Mass Effect 2 again... and it's making me wish we ever got a new game in the series. Shame that they stopped at three and definitely only three Mass Effect games.

@vinny I'm not sure if no one's explained this in detail in the comments (instead of just complaining) or I'm just missing it (if so, sorry), but the reason people are mad about the Ship Upgrades is that hitting the upgrade dialogue option on each party member unlocks a new ship upgrade in the menu (Garrus wants an upgraded gun, Miranda wants a better med-bay, stuff like that), so you should press it on every party member at least once. I think it's silly that it brings you to the upgrade menu instead of just adding it, I too assumed it was just a way to access the upgrade menu on my first playthrough.

@bobulus: If memory serves it's got a rudimentary pistol-butt melee that sort of staggers the enemy a bit and does minimal damage. It's only really meant for emergencies and isn't great. None of the Omni-blade (AKA big fuck-off energy sword) stuff yet, that's ME3.

@kensanity: Gonna back everyone up and confirm Lair of the Shadow Broker is really, really good (one of my favorite pieces of DLC in any game ever), and semi-essential to the game, since otherwise an important returning character basically does nothing except show up and tease the DLC, plus the place said character winds up in ME3 makes no sense without it. The character in question is Liara,, been awkwardly dancing around it to avoid spoilers.

Overlord I really, really love, but it's completely inessential, basically just a side-story. You can play the game and never realize it's missing. Also it's partially built around the rather controversial Hammerhead (the DLC-only replacement for the Mako), and is more of a combat-heavy experience, so a lot of people don't like it. I'd recommend Overlord if you desperately want more ME2, but pass it up otherwise.

Arrival I rather dislike. It's actually pretty OK in its own right (if a bit short and the weakest of the three either way), but its plot seems to be an essential prelude to ME3, and then just gets almost completely ignored in that game (I think there's literally one line of dialogue about it) because obviously not everyone has the DLC. It mostly led me to being really frustrated about bits of the third game and I wound up regretting playing Arrival at all, so I personally don't really recommend it.

The DLC characters are good but quite overpriced. Neither of the DLC characters have recruitment missions, only loyalty missions, so you really only get one level out of them. You also don't get to have many conversations with them on the ship like you do with the other squadmates (I think it's only one, right after you do their loyalty missions). They do talk, but it's just them having a line or two of dialogue to say at you on the ship after every mission, not full-on dialogue trees, and they feel a bit lightweight as a result. I like both the characters and the missions attached to them quite a lot (especially Zaeed), but I'm not conviced they're worth the rather hefty price-tag. I think they're probably the worst value-for-money of the DLCs. I only got them after a few playthroughs of the game to spice it up, and maybe I'd recommend the same here: if you feel like you're going to keep coming back to the game pick them up, if not it's fine to skip them.

Jee whiz, I rambled on quite a bit. I'm just really passionate about Mass Effect 2 DLC, I guess.

This middle section of ME 1 is what kept me from recommending it to people. The first few hours are great and the last third of the game is amazing, but these 3 planets are a slog.

I can see that. I really love Noveria, but Therum is hot garbage and Feros is really polarized (great little plot with tonnes of atmosphere but there's too much shooting and it's bland and boring to look at, mid 2000's brownety brown brown at its worst). Honestly the less shooting a place has the better. Virmire and everything after it makes it all worth it, though.
