Shifting My Alignment

I want to start by saying I've always been an Xbox fanboy of some-sort. Even though i never participate in the flame wars, my console of choice was always Microsoft's.

I've had my 360 for about 4 years, but only purchased my ps3 last year. Still, i always spent more time on my 360, it was always my multi-paltform game choice. After this years E3 though, i can't help but see myself enjoying my Play Station much more in the future. Microsoft showed only shooters as far as exclusives go, and while gears and halo are some of my favorite franchises, I'm starting to feel the fatigue. i don't really have much interest in those franchises anymore, i'm getting sick of shooters, and that's almost the only thing on MS's slate. (NOTE: i said mostly, i know MS has great games, ME2 is my GOTY so far.) On the other hand, Sony is giving me fantastic games of more varied genre's like Infamous and God of War, my favorite game of last year may have been a shooter, Uncharted 2, but it was still varied and was still awesome.

on the motion front, well i have no interest in Kinect, they're chasing after the Wii market and i could care less about the games they have shown. Sony, while still chasing after the casual market, isn't forgetting about me and the games I like. I'm much more likely to try out FIGHT and maybe play U2:AT with move, than cuddle with Skittles,( I got real animals for that.) and play Wii ripoffs.

At the moment, I still prefer xbox Live, and I'm an achievement whore, while trophies just aren't doing it for me. next time i pick up a multiplatform game, it will still be on Xbox, but i can see this easily changing in the near future. more and more im holding a dualshock3 than an xbox controller, and while i look at upcoming games, i realize that it's going to continue.

It's interesting that you say that Kinect is a Wii rip-off, when the Move has greater parity with the Wii in that respect. The only reason I want the Kinect is for Dance Central. I'm not really interested in the other games, though I'm sure with time good ones will come. Move is looking good for shooters, and I hope it sees a revival of light gun games. (Though, if Leigh Alexander is to be heard, this would be a bad thing.) But I think having both platforms is the way to go these days, and now you have the option to choose which console to buy multiplatform games for in those rare cases that the PlayStation 3 version performs better than the XBOX 360 version, as in Final Fantasy XIII.

I'm sure the Move will feature just as many ripoffs, mein freund. :)

Oh yeah, definitely. But I do agree with what Bourne's saying, if you just look at MS and Sony's approaches to their new peripherals - you can clearly see the distinction: MS is going straight up casual so far while Sony is having casual but implementing "hard core"/traditional games into it with Socom, Sorcery etc. Will be interesting to see the adoption of these two technologies, I'm interested to see how the Kinect fares because it seems targeted much more strongly at the casual market on a console that's comprised up of mostly hardcore gamers and games.

Absolutely. I'm actually looking forward to Time Crisis most, especially since Razing Storm (the main game in the package) doesn't use patterns and routines; it's mostly randomized. I think that's an important difference between the two, at least at this early stage, which will see who buys what.

My issue there is this: why would the core audience want to use move when they can play plenty of games using a regular controller. It's giving people an option that most of them won't exercise. Were they to ditch traditional controllers altogether, I assure you that both MS and Sony would make more "core" experiences for them, because that's a market they can't just forget about.
