I didn't play many 2014 games this year, so it's hard to choose. Some of the games that I did play definitely do not deserve to be on this list. Such as Chibi-Robo: Photo Finder. I wanted to love that game. Man, did I want to love that game... It was okay at best.
Anyway, this list sucks.
DARK SOULS
It may not have much in terms of story, but I played the shit out of it.
The fact that it came out and didn't suck was a huge surprise.
Legend of Grimrock was fucking great and the second game is even better. Fucking love Legend of Grimrock.
Played the hell out of it. Story is weak, gameplay is fantastic.
Does this count? They did a lot of work to it and although the story kind of still sucks ass, the gameplay is still top-notch.
I kind of didn't care about about Generation 3 Pokemon and I didn't clamor for a remake at all, unlike the rest of the internet, but seeing the world rendered in 3D was a surprisingly interesting experience.
I dunno, it's Smash Bros.
I dunno, it's Mario Kart.
I have no nostalgia for Shadowgate at all and did not ever play the original when I was a kid, nor have I ever heard of it until the 2014 remake/reimagining, so I had no expectations going into it and man is it brutal and hard to figure out.
