Solid picks and good deliberations all around on these. I think I'm a little more sympathetic to Alex's point about the broader conversation about No Man's Sky after its release being reasons to discount its 'hot messness' than the table seemed to be, but fair winners and the soundest arguments won out imo

They said in the Bombcast that you should throw whatever you like on the list. It'll all count up (probably).

Some "don't forgets" from me -- Firewatch and Twilight Struggle were both 2016 games and great!

How does the GBA version of FF VI compare to the original version? Is it a new translation? New content?

The translation is new, being similar to the original but tweaked in spots, tightening up a few lines and overhauling the menus (e.g. spell names). Some people wanted a line-by-line duplication of Ted Woolsley's SNES original, but I prefer the GBA version. There's a new post-game dungeon along with four additional Espers, some of which are optional bosses. It also takes out some major bugs (in particular the ones related to Relm and Vanish+Banish).

Apparently the sound quality is lower, though? I honestly can't tell.

Article raises some super salient points. I think there's a lot to be said for a 'gameplay-focused' game like Hitman having an episodic structure as opposed to a narrative game. I am an absolute stickler for waiting until an episodic game is completed before I dive in, if only because my time to play is limited and interest will probably lapse in the interim. While Hitman doesn't float my boat, it seems to be able to focus attention more than narrative-focused games so.

That said, I wonder if that's because the Bombcast/Twitter are my main ways of interacting with games culture (bar chatting with my friends) and extreme caginess around narrative spoilers is an endemic feature of the landscape (beyond the vague hints that "this story goes somewhere"), which might just mean those games are less well-equipped to keep focus anyway?

That Soviet naval hat is really cool, rough story from the grandfather of the Drew who sent it in, though.

So like, seriously, if you don't have that platform creation ray thing are you just fucked when you go for Dr. Wily?

Yep! It's another one of those things that makes Mega Man 1 archaic and a bit ropey.

Sorry to bother you folks, but any intention for GBEast to do Megaman & Bass/Rockman & Forte for the GBA, which is considered by some as 'Megaman 8.5'? It isn't officially numbered, so I assume not, but...
