Super happy this came up by the time I got up on this morning! Real-deal Tuesday Bombcast for the UK fits into my listening schedule super well, fingers crossed the new editing process works out!
(P.S. "the ultimate fate of poo particles", good third album name)
This list reminded me that Mudkip is great, but also how much I dislike most of the starter evolution designs in Pokémon, especially for the cuter ones. Cyndaquil, Treecko, Mudkip... ugh
Growing up in England, we didn't learn shit about WW1 either, I'm just as confused about people bristling at the depiction of WW1 given the decades of dumb WW2 media we went through.
I think its totally fine for DICE to choose a setting just because its got a cool mix of tech. They have no more an obligation to be respectful than they did with any previous game.
Really? We did quite a bit about it in Scotland.
It's possible I was just sleeping but I only remember it being brought up in relation to WW2 and the rise of the Nazi party, it always seemed like a footnote to WW2.
I think this goes to show that, as Brad said on the show, you can't assume what someone's been taught based on where they are. Every school focuses on different elements and its likely your school didn't focus on World War I as one of its modules of study.
In my school (Welsh), World War I was talked about significantly more than World War II, focusing on themes around incompetent generals, the waste of life, horrific living conditions (particularly disease), the 'meat grinder', &c. In the UK (at least?), you have to factor in specific regions being particularly heavily effected because of recruitment patterns (the "Pals Battalions"). On the continent, you have irreparably devastated regions. I don't know if it's exceptional, but I can see why people aren't enthusiastic about it.
Personally, I wasn't going to play the next Battlefield regardless, so it doesn't mean all that much to me!
Echoing the appreciation for this and would be ecstatic to watch a feature of this. Might pick this up with a friend so we can have some fun games while talking about late twentieth century history.
