I appreciate this article, although my 'takeaway' remains that I think the Fates localisers made the right decision in removing it. Analysing why this mechanic came into existence and why its entering (relatively) mainstream games is something I'm here for, even if I'm kinda sceptical about it and its implementations.

Thanks for the article, I'm interested to hear more about this. Between this and the podcast, I'm hopeful that Ian will have some great material to share about where video game production is at, along with potentially some 'answers'? Of course, just being able to say 'this is how things are (at least for these developers, in this region)' is valuable in itself.

I'm also interested to hear about, like, if the situation is beginning to shift at all. Like, there's an explanation for why unionisation in the workforce hasn't happened yet (because its super hard for a bunch of reasons). Not that I'm expecting it to, necessarily, but...

(P.S. Shout-out to all the devs in the comments talking about their own experiences with things like 'crunch', thank you all for sharing your experiences.)

On that note, is this the best way to go about aerobreaking or is it something where you can drain off speed much faster? I'm sure they could have dipped more earlier, but I understand their worries entirely.

Was there any particular reason why it was run by two different companies for so many years? That seems a wee bit strange, but I'm sure there's a logic behind it.

Thanks to Austin for discussing the FE: Fates stuff in a thoughtful way and rejecting the framework some folks have tried to fit into. Even with this change, I'm really mixed on whether I even want to consider playing that game, which is a huge shame for a series I used to love a whole bunch.

(P.S. Speaking of thanks, some more go out to Alex & Austin for mentioning what comes into my head when someone says 'Weather Underground'. I thought I'd drifted into an alternative reality for a second.)
