I just built a PC last month, but I went to a brick-and-mortar computer store and basically told the guy what I wanted out of it, which was 1080p/60 with a little extra headroom in case I want to overclock, opt into VR, or raise resolution to 4k (though, at the cost of frame rate).

I ended up with an i5-6600K, an ASUS GTX 980 STRIX, and 16 GB RAM. Think I'll see where this setup falls in the next few years, but for now, it's plenty.

While lamenting that the frame rate and performance concessions were holding these consoles back, I decided to build my first modern PC. Boy, could I give less of a fuck about PlayStation Neo after playing The Witcher 3 at 1080p and a full 60 FPS for the first time. I have a PS4, but even when I was relying on consoles full time, the Xbox One still got more use. The only PS4 game I've ever really spent a great deal of time playing was MGSV.

(That almost doesn't count though - That game was insanely well-optimized.)

Mainly the Bombcast lately.

I'm personally not a fan of the "comedy" skits improvised on the Beastcast. They go on way too long for not enough laughs, especially considering the already short and regimented run-time for that show. A few jokes as an aside to a news story, sure fine, but these bits (like the voice actor auditions) are tortuous for me to listen to.

I listen to both religiously. I agree that the Beastcast gets wildly off-topic for too long, but Vinny's hosting is a little more unhinged than Brad's.

Just two died on me. The first was a disc drive problem first noticed while playing Guitar Hero II. The second was an actual red ring issue which, thankfully, happened within the red ring warranty extension period.

I just built my first gaming PC a few weeks ago and have had the urge to do so for many years. I decided after playing something like a billion hours of Metal Gear Solid V on PS4 that I wanted the sort of fantastic performance that game exhibited on console all the time.

I opened my budget a bit and got a great VR-ready PC for around $1200. I splurged on a GTX 980 (I say "splurged" but there was a sale at my local computer store). Despite the fact that this card will probably be outdated in a few months, it's beefy enough that I still feel like I got a hell of a lot of machine for my money. Very pleased so far and can't wait to dig into the PC side of my console backlog.

I would have to say my most disappointing game was Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. I was so ready for another narrative-driven Gone Home-style "walking simulator" and while it has the "walking" part down (seriously, no running), it was far less engaging. At least in Gone Home you were picking up and interacting with things. Here, all you're doing is walking from one conversation between beams of light to another. The story does the discovering for you, rather than letting you do that on your own.

I used the mic and the walking ten paces trick. I dunno, man. Having to game the end of it took me out of the experience.

Wow, what a nightmare.

To think, this was one of the games that sold me on a PS4 in the first place.
