Inspirations

Some games are obviously derivative of other games. Here are a few games with their inspirations.

  • Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge was developed by Gremlin Graphics and released in 1990 for the Amiga.

  • More akin to a port, Top Gear was also developed by Gremlin Graphics and was released in 1992 for the SNES.

  • Developed by Nintento EAD and released in 1985.

  • Developed by Time Warp and released in 1987. Strikingly similar to Super Mario Bros.

  • Developed by Nintendo R&D1 and released in 1986. Features Samus, a character in power armour that has the ability to transform into a ball and roll around, throwing bombs.

  • Developed by Factor 5 and released in 1990, Turrican features a dude in power armour that has the ability to transform into a small saw blade and roll around, throwing bombs. The power-ups are floating eyes moving in sinusoidal patterns, similar to Contra.

  • A 1985 side-scrolling shoot 'em up by Konami, featuring a power bar where you can buy power-ups: speed, missile, double, laser, option (protective force unit), and shield.

  • A 1992 side-scrolling shoot 'em up by Team 17, featuring a power bar where you can buy power-ups: speed, guns, build, side, missile, plasma, magma, lazer, and stealth.
