Best maintenance ever?

Played Bioshock 2 again and there's one thing that kinda bothered me: How did Rapture stay in a semi-functional manner after eight years? The city hasn't been completely flooded and it still has electricity. Was the city really that well-built?

Birthday!

It was my birthday yesterday. Spent it with family eating Modern Pizza! Yum!

What did I get? Grindhouse on blu-ray, a $25 gift certificate for my local comic book store and Call of Duty: Black Ops.

My brother also gave me something I never would've expected. On Christmas, I joked that I got just about everything I wanted except the right to decide who lives and who dies. Well, my brother gave me a certificate, signed by God and Lucifer, granting me the right to decide who lives and who dies. It's only good for a year, though. Decisions, decisions...

Reluctance to Descend

So, a little over a month ago, I got Amnesia: The Dark Descent. I followed the game's advice and played it with the lights out. I played it for a few hours and haven't played it again after that one session.

It's not because I thought it was a bad game or that it didn't grab my interest. It's because I was too scared to play it again. I've played all kinds of horror games: Silent Hill 2, Eternal Darkness, Dead Space, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth and Vampire: The Masquerade-Bloodlines among others. And not one game has creeped me out that much. I know I'm gonna go back and finish it eventually. But I'm genuinely nervous about it.

Has anyone else ever experienced something like this from a game?

Do unto others...

I've always believed in treating others the way I'd want to be treated. As the saying goes, life is short. So I believe that we need to be kind to each other during the time we've got.

And yet, I see an abundance of rudeness, cynicism and misguided anger towards others everywhere. I see it from other people in everyday life. I see it online in places like YouTube, 4Chan and internet forums.

I have to wonder what the deal with these people are? Were they not raised properly? Did their parents not teach them manners growing up? Are they unhappy with themselves and trying to ensure that everyone around them is as miserable as they are, whether they deserve it or not?

Really, is being kind and polite to others such a bad thing?

A bad night for the Warriors

A cool article on The Warriors at the Chigago-Sun Times website. Found the link via Roger Ebert's Twitter account.
