Alright, I've been keeping track of games I've played (old and new). I'm counting December 2014 as part of 2015, because I loved Talos Principle and feel that December games typically get the shaft. Things listed in rough order of enjoyment / anticipation.
2015 games I have played end enjoyed:
- Splatoon - Who would have thought Nintendo would make a great online multiplayer shooter?
- Kerbal Space Program - All about that ∆v
- The Talos Principle - I enjoyed the difficulty of puzzles, the variety and layering of mechanics, and the story on top of it.
- Her Story - I liked figuring out things and going further down rabbit holes as my search term ideas yielded developments to my understanding of what happened.
- Sunless Sea - The story parts were great, the atmosphere great, and there was a good amount of the world explained while some left to mystery
Vintage games I have played and enjoyed this year:
- Katamari Damacy / We Love Katamari / Beautiful Katamari - Extremely original mechanic (patented!). Wonderful style and quirkyness. Each of the first three games have something going for them.
- Gitaroo Man - Fun songs, solid rhythm game with fun story. I (lovingly) hate you Sanbone Trio. I actually hate you Gregorio. Very difficult, though that may be due to emulator / monitor.
- Pokémon Snap - Still enjoyable. Kind of annoying how some of the good shots rely on esoteric things that near adventure game logic. Professor Oak is a terrible judge of photography.
Games that are out and I want to play:
- The Witcher 3: The Witchening - Everything I heard is exciting, but early patches made me delay playing this and I haven't taken the chance to play it yet.
- Axiom Verge - I have a Metroid itch that Nintendo won't scratch.
- Hotline Miami 2 - Early complaints of it being more ranged combat and less melee combat made me less interested. Still interested.
Future games that I want to play:
- Return of the Obra Dinn - Murder mysteries excite me. Aesthetic style looks amazing and unique.
- XCOM 2 - Going with the losing ending from 1 is great, I can't wait to blast more aliens.
- Final Fantasy XV - I haven't played a non-MMO Final Fantasy since X-2 (ugh), I'm excited to try out what looks to be a more open world experience with an action oriented combat system.
- The Witness- I love me some puzzles, and this game has got style and puzzles. I hope the puzzles are good.
- Superhot - The style and unique mechanic grabbed me to the point where I had to back it on kickstarter.
- Firewatch - Who can say what it is, but what I've seen has me interested in the story and art.
- The Legend of Zelda Wii U - A Link Between Worlds got me excited about Zelda again, and the idea of an open world Zelda excites me more. I'm ready to love 3D Zelda again.
- Frog Fractions 2 - I have to learn about fractions 2.
