The start of the footy season

Although i wouldn't have chosen my team to kick the new season off ( would have rather in the the premiership starting next week), it all starts again in 9 hours and counting.  46 games to play and only 2 clubs will go up (1 more through the play offs).

So Middlesbrough V Sheffield United at the Riverside tonight.  Glad we have a home game 1st and although i expect it to be tight, i do expect us to win.  Not sure about promotion by the end but I do expect us to be in the top 6 at least.

so, who does everyone else support and what are your expectations for the coming season?.

Simon.

Ashes cricket 2009 - the game

I never played the demo of this game as just watching it put me off straight away it and was not impressed at all.

I played the full game last night and have to admit I like it a lot more than I was expecting (especially after seeing the demo). I only played the tutorial and the challenges which took about 1.5-2 hours (you don't need to do it though) and It's a lot more in depth than Brian Lara. Batting, you can now decide to play of front or back foot and there's a meter telling you how well you have hit the ball for future reference.
As someone who doesn't know a great deal about cricket, the bowling is a bit intimidating. Yes, you can just bowl like in Lara, but there is so much more bowling options if you want. When actually playing, i didn't really notice how bad the bowlers/fielders animation were  ( i noticed this in the demo) as i was more into playing it than when I was just watching
I'm going to have a game against my son tonight so will let you know how it plays in a match but already it's more of a cricket game than Lara was (which was pretty good).

RIP Bobby Robson

Just announced that he has died.

Outside of the UK and Europe, some people probably didn't know who he was.  Not only was he a fantastic manager at club and international level, he was a genuine great guy who loved the sport and a great human being.

RIP Sir Bobby. A true legend.

Incompetent Fools !!!

I sent my broken Xbox off to be repaired about 10 days ago, along with all the cables (which they specifically asked for).  Got an email last night saying my xbox was on the way and will be delivered tomorrow (today).  Anyway, got the Xbox and power cable, but not the f**king AV component cable I sent.  How hard must it be to check the checklist of items i'd sent to them and send them all back together?.  Anyway, they promise the cable will be delivered tomorrow.

Impulse buying.

Must admit that i'm a bit of a sucker for impulse buying at times.  The amount of times i've been looking around Xbox live, PSN, or iTunes, ( these are the biggest culprits ) not looking for anything in particular only to buy a few things on impuse.  The thing that got me thinking was the announcement of the new dlc for LBP costumes.  I have no real need to get any of them but I know once released i'll probably buy one.
I must admit i've bought a few costumes for my little sack boy recently, Ghostbusters and KZ2 pack which both are pretty good.  Anyway, looking around this morning i've noticed that there are some Marvel Super Hero costumes on way.
I think it's probably because a lot of the dlc seems pretty ok, 79 pence here, £1.50 there.  Nothing that really is going to break the bank on it's own, but add a few items up and ..........bang.
My Last impulse buy was at weekend when I bought Wipeout HD for £13.99 which I have to say is great value.  Although i couldn't stop there, oh no... I read a lot of good things on the dcl (fury) so decided to get that also.  So from getting up on Saturday morning not thinking of buying anything, suddenly by the evening I'd spent over £20. in my defence though, i think money well spent this time.

Why not cyber support my football (soccer) team?

Ok,  i'm a season ticket holder at my local football club ( or soccer to certain people ).  My team is not a particularly well known team outside the UK and unfortunately were relegated from the Premiership last season.  Up until 2004 we had never won a major cup in our history ( founded in 1876).  All that changed when we beat Bolton 2-1. yes !!!!!!.   We then went on make the UEFA Cup Final in 2006 where we lost but was still a massive achievement for our club.  Then  our manager left to take over the England national job.

Since then our decline has been pretty bad.  We appointed a young and inexperienced guy who was our captain at the time and things didn't go to plan.  Like a lot of clubs in England, financial restraints are taking their toll so now we have been relegated to the Coca-Cola championship, we have to sell our better players.
My son (who is 12) and I have again got our season tickets for this season but with attendances down, we could do with all the support we could get.
So my fellow GiantBomb friends, feel free to cyber support my team over the coming season where i'll attempt to keep you all up to date with  the highs and lows of my team.
The season kicks off a week on Friday (7th August) against Sheffield United.  Who is this team you are asking who GB will take to their hearts?, Middlesbrough Football Club ( or as we liked to be known, "Boro" )

My summer plans

Had knee reconstruction (medial petallofemeral ligament reconstruction) 4 weeks ago and still hobbling around pretty badly so most of my summer will be spent off work ( it's very hard i know :-) ).  I've already managed to watch a few dvd and tv programmes, also managed to finish a few games on my ps3 that I had hardly played since getting it for christmas.  Now looking forward to fight night round 4.  Only downside is Physio, which really is legalised torture.
Also looking forward to watching the cricket when England V Australia play for the Ashes here in the UK ( bit like baseball only more interesting ;-)  )
