More reguler blogs for no one to read?

Well For some reason I am writing another blog post even though I have no reason to do so oh well. Hmm I seem to have a weird personality and voice in these posts that might put people off. So games... My computer's replacement motherboard should arrive tomorrow so I will soon be able to play some of the awesome games that have come out since it's initial problems. Just Cause 2 will be the first game I install but I might play some other games as well. I can't wait to jump off of the Mile High Club blimp thing. I think that Just Cause 2 shows a good trend in video games. This trend shows that we are about to start to approach the barrier where games begin to start to just be about creating a fun experience. Then we will start to see better story's all because of the the technology reaching an acceptable limit. Interesting that we have yet to reach this point yet but we have the technology to produce unrealistic games that are totally awesome. Think of games like mario while creepy weird they are fun. Looking towards the future with optimism I hope that by the time that I join the video game industry games have reached at least a equilibrium of technology and design. By the way why is it that some people think that video games are not art. If you can accept that movies and plays are art then you must also agree that video games are art. Meh I guess I will write another post some other time.

Bah, there's always reason to write! Just venting here would be an acceptable reason to blog (as long as they're not cross-posted to the forums). I'm sure that just by posting more in the forums and voicing your opinion you'll get more followers and have even more reason to come back and write.

I have yet to buy Just Cause 2, but even the demo was fun as hell to play. I think there's a disconnect for a lot of developers where they feel like fun must be sacrificed for realism and attempt to reconcile that by saying that the realism supports the story. Of course, for games like Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Modern Warfare 2, this is sometimes true. Still, though, there's a lot say for a developer that has the balls to basically say "Fuck physics! you can survive free-fall by grappling the ground!" The only thing that keeps me from buying games like Just Cause 2 is that they you can't really play them longer than an hour a day. It just starts to wear on you that, sure, you can do all this crazy stuff, but once you've blown up a few towns and tethered so many dudes to trees, you get sort of bored. So I'm with you that the day that they find that balance between game design and tech will truly be a great day.

On the subject of art, there are definitely games that can be considered art. You can look at Flower, Love, or Braid and see what the artists, designers, and writers were trying to do. Even games like Mass Effect exemplify everything that could be exhilarating and beautiful about video games and show that they can definitely go up against some AAA films if they're done well enough. Regardless, there will always be those who look at video games and just not get it just like there some of the newer generations that look at classical art and think it's garbage. That's how society progresses, I guess.

That's long enough. Til next time.

I've been playing video games for a long time and feel that they're only getting better. To think of the games and platforms of the future is a good thing, a great thing, pure and simple, I can't wait.

I wonder when I'm long gone, I'm 45, if the young members of Giant Bomb will still be playing video games or even at my age? How long will I continue to play video games and is my hobby art? Truly, the art of play is my main goal. But, however that art is performed, that's up to the developer. Game on and good gaming, day by day, I play video games.

@Dr_Feelgood38:@Claude: Thanks for reading guys. Comment noted and much appreciated. I love classical art or at least the good ones ehehehhehehe. Anyway yeah some people can find the art in games some can't but that is one of the aspects of art right? Oh and Just Cause 2 is similar to some games in that you can get to a point where you need to play some other game or just stop. To that I say if money is not an object(that is rhetorical, I mean of course it is but whatever) then buy games for the experience and variety as well as your way of voting for the type of games that you want to be developed. If those games are ones that include mostly Epic story telling and set pieces so be it; You might like just action OK; or you might just like fun in whatever package it comes in.
