Current Play List

Since I've done some play lists in the past I thought I'd do another one. Here are some games I've been playing lately and a bit about what I think of them.

Vanquish - Almost finished, pretty tough but loving it. The characters are story are so ridiculously bad they're good.

Deus Ex - Loving it but don't always feel in the mood to play it since it generally takes some thinking and I've been exhausted lately. So much YELLOW.

Hard Reset - Got this on Steam on a bit of a whim. I am actually really enjoying it. I miss these sorts of old school shooters where you just go in guns blazing and shoot everything that moves (circle strafe!)

Worms Ultimate Mayhem - I know a lot of people don't like the 3D worms very much, but I have been loving this new version. The nicer graphics and little tweaks to the controls (on PC) make a big difference. I still wish they would try a bit harder to update the gameplay of this. It would be cool to see a class-based Worms game with some light RPG elements (weapon unlocks/upgrades etc.) just as a change of pace or something...

The Binding of Isaac - Absolutely loving this. Haven't been able to finish it though. I can't tell if it's just super hard or if I just suck. But I'm happily playing it over and over again lately.

Fallout: New Vegas - I've finally gotten around to playing New Vegas lately on Steam. I was totally loving it until I got to a point where I can't get out of a room without dying because I have like 3 health left and no ammo... if I can figure out how to get by there I'll probably play tons more of it soon, but until then I'm dreading having to go back to a really old save instead...

Pinball FX 2 - I bought this when it came out, and I don't think there's been a single week that's gone by where I haven't played it since. I have ever table and play this game obsessively. If you are even remotely interested in pinball this game is pure awesomeness. One of the best leaderboard systems in any game I've seen too.

Jetpack Joyride - I have put an absolutely ridiculous amount of time into playing Jetpack Joyride on my iPod lately... I'm kind of embarassed how addicited I have become. I've almost unlocked every item in the shop now... just a couple more gold upgrades to go...

Bulletstorm - I got this super cheap on sale downtown and played through the whole thing in 2 sittings. It's not necessarily really short, I was just loving it. The single-player campaign for this was not at all what I thought it would be. It was much better. I like the scoring system in it but I was surprised how fun this actually was. I don't entirely get why this game wasn't more popular than it was, other than the completely juvenile and offensive tone of the advertising. For some reason the game itself never bothered me as much as the stupid ads for it.

Orcs Must Die!

I had seen a lot of previews for Orcs Must Die! over the last few weeks and never gave it a second thought. But after looking at the quicklook on here I downloaded the demo on steam and really loved it. It has a very similar gameplay feel to Trenched but I dig the fantasy setting. I bought the full version earlier today and have been really loving it. I tried it on xbox as well but drastically prefer the mouse/keyboard controls to the clunky gamepad. The only thing I really wish it had was co-op of some kind, because this would be a blast with 4 players.

World of Chorecraft

I've had a WoW account going on and off for 6 years. Admittedly there was a large gap in the middle where I didn't touch the game for a few years but still, I've been playing for a long time. Despite this, my highest character is still only level 73 (the max currently being 85).

When I first played World of Warcraft I was in a pretty small, but very active guild of nice guys. We used vent and did raids and grouped and had a lot of fun. About a year after I joined the guild everyone sort of stopped playing all around the same time. I didn't touch the game for over a year and when I came back the guild had disbanded and I couldn't find anyone still playing.

I haven't really joined a proper guild since. Most of my WoW playing from that point has been solo. I still really enjoy World of Warcraft but I certainly don't enjoy it as much as I used to. Lately I find it more of a chore than anything. Almost like something I need to do instead of something I do for fun. It's not addiction because I still only play it a few hours a week, jumping from character to character trying to capture the feeling I had when I first played the game 6 years ago. It's just never as fun. There was a sense of exploration, adventure and (as cheesy as it sounds) camaraderie among my old guild-mates that I just have not been able to reproduce. Maybe I just haven't found the right guild or maybe I've just played too much of the game now to find it fun any more but still the game keeps drawing me back from time to time.

Certainly the new expansion has breathed a lot of new life into the game and I haven't even experienced the bulk of what it has to offer because my character is still too low level. So maybe I'll stick with it long enough to reach level 85 and finally call it quits.

Current Bucket List

Over the holidays I bought way too many games during the holiday/boxing day sales... Here's a list of games I bought and whether or not I've finished them yet...

Halo: Reach (Finished)
Fable 2 (Finished)
Uncharted 2 (Finished)
Super Street Fighter IV (Finished it with a few characters.. not much else)
Brutal Legend for $8! (probably about 25% into the game... kind of lost interest but will probably go back and finish it eventually)
Assassin's Creed II (Only played the intro)
Dragon Age (Have played a few hours. Loving it... was waiting for PC upgrade to play more. Should play this much more now)
Battlefield Bad Company 2 (Played through a good chunk of the singleplayer game and then lost my save file while upgrading to new computer)
Raskulls (about 80% finished story mode)
ilomilo (75% done)
World of Keflings (I think I'm about 90% done this... have been playing it co-op only with girlfriend)
Blood Bowl: Legendary Edition (Have barely even started playing around in this yet)
Bejeweled 3 (many hours of this on laptops over holidays)
Planets vs Zombies PC (Have actually played through this before but bought it again for Steam Achievements... I am a sucker)
Alan Wake (Have played a few hours of this, really like it, but haven't had time to play more)
Enslaved (Almost done! I am playing this more than anything else right now)
WoW: Cataclysm (Played this a bit before Christmas and mean to get back into it more, great stuff but not time to play (see above))
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light (Bought this super cheap. Haven't played too much yet. Was hoping to play co-op with someone local)
Kinectimals (I bought this mostly for my nephew who played it over the holidays. Haven't played it since I got back)
Dance Central (Was really sick recently and haven't had the energy, plan to have people over to play soon though)
Kinect Adventures (We played this a LOT over the holidays... my parents really got a kick out of it)
Lego Universe (Bought this to my nephew but he's too young, ended up playing it quite a lot during 30 days included. Did not renew though)

I bought more on Steam but that's all I can remember at the moment... In most cases I paid between $1-10 for each of these games on sale in different places... I don't plan on buying anything else for a while... these should keep me busy...

It's a pretty strange mix of older games, new games and casual games... I am starting to notice that I have no specific taste in gaming... as long as it's good.

I had so much free time over the holidays it was awesome to play so many games... but there's no way for me to keep up the pace I set recently...  these games should last me months now...
