10 Favorite Games Ever

I wanted to throw this together and maintain a list of my favorite games. I haven't really thought about this before, and was curious what I would end up with.

There are a lot of indie games that almost made the list for me: Rochard, The Witness, Hotline Miami, and more. Same for racing games and arcade games, but none of them quite made the list.

List items

  • I knew this one be on the list, but the more I thought about it, I couldn't really put anything ahead of it. A great game at the right point in my life, this is the first game I put a lot of time into online and maybe my most played game of all time.

  • One of the first RPGs I really got into, I was pretty young and liked star wars, so this hit all the right buttons. Having choices in a game was really eye opening for me.

  • I came to this late on the GBA, I think the mario all stars version is what was on there. I loved this game and still play it to this day occasionally. I have this strong memory from when I was 10 or 11 and watching a playoff football game with the Jets.

  • This wasn't the first RTS I played, but the complexity and the scale of the unit groups really made this stand out for me at the time. I loved playing this on LAN with my cousin or my brother.

  • This the most fun turn based combat I've ever played. The story is enjoyable and the narrator entertaining, this is probably the only game in the last 5 years I've played through multiple times.

  • I really didn't like playing high school football and this came out right when I finished my senior year. It was a nice transition from real sports to e-sports for me and I loved it. I've never studied strategy in a multiplayer game like I did for SC2 and I still try to catch a GSL match every once in a while.

  • People always say the History Channel was the WW2 channel, but there was definitely a healthy amount of ancient history on there. This is my first total war game. The historical aspects hooked me as a kid and the light 4X stuff in the map added a lot of depth.

  • Bethesda games are like nothing else. I prefer sci fi to fantasy as well, so fallout 3 was right up my alley after not really being into oblivion. I think I like Fallout New Vegas about the same as 3, but 3 came first and I think that puts it over the top for me.

  • Great combat that has been copied to death since, but was a joy at the time. The metroidvania elements and the map/world in this are my favorite of the Arkham games and that makes this one my favorite.

  • I came to this one late as well, but it charmed me to death and the satisfaction of rolling things up is hard to beat.
