Not really surprised they're doing it; actually more surprised they didn't make this move sooner.

I've been mentally checked out of the series since MW2 (I played Advanced Warfare and liked it, but that's been the recent exception), so it doesn't matter to me what they do with it now.

Think for me it's Mercenaries 2. I understand the flaws with the game and I get why people thought it was bad; especially compared to the first game. However, I would be lying if I said I didn't like the game. I remember alot of time spent fucking around in the game over and over again.

I think it might be a CBSi thing. I had that happen on GB once, but also had it happen again. when I was using CBS All-Access. If that is the case there's not a lot GB can do about that.

I did like the deliberations overall. Yes I was saddened Horizon: ZD didn't really go up on any of the crews radar, but it isn't my list and if the crew felt like they didn't like it, I have no right to demand them to satisfy me by putting it on there.

There was only a couple of negatives I got out of them.

1. I agreed with Jeff that they needed to stop recording and actually talk about what "Best World" meant because the staff had different definitions in their heads going into the category and I thought the discussion suffered from it. To me if they are going to have an argument about procedure, that shouldn't be on the final audio cut because it annoys the listeners as well.

2. I wished they followed Vinny's idea last year for Best Game because it was formulated to combat the negativity we had in 2015 (the one point I still remember is Jeff yelling at Alex "just fucking stop and listen to me" and Alex getting miffed by that). It allowed the crew to pick and choose what they want to consider and start from a good place of adding games rather than going straight for the daggers at the start.

As far as the "they're not bringing good arguments to the table" criticism...I get it. There were times where I got annoyed at various crew members for repeating the same things over and over again or being outright dismissive of a person's point. However, I think that is inherent to the type of discussion they're having and the conditions around the discussion. As they said before, these discussions take alot of energy and time out of them and I don't care who you are, trying to talk and sit in a room for that long in those conditions are not going to be conducisive to great rhetoric like it was some Oxford academic panel.

Austin Walker is good at trying to make good arguments, but I don't want all the crew to be like Austin in that regard because everyone is going to express their passions and feelings in different ways. Austin Walker could do that because he was used to that method of argument in his background. To be frank, I don't want Giant Bomb's GOTY discussion to devolve down to who has the best rhetorical voice. What Abby felt and said about Dream Daddy and Nier is just as legitimate as Austin's rhetorical speech about Invisible Inc. in 2015. I find it quite distressing that people are saying people's voices should not be considered if they don't come prepared with notes and citations.

The Oregon Trail bit on the latest Bombcast got me thinking about which version(s) of the game we played when we were kids. The one I remember playing was The Oregon Trail Deluxe that came out for DOS and Mac in 1992.

What about y'all?

I usually put on a turn-based strategy game where I don't need to listen to the game audio/music or require alot of attention. In my case Sid Meier's Civilization VI, Stellaris, Hearts of Iron IV, Endless Space 2, etc.

When I saw it played on GB and on another site (Rage Select), I knew I wanted it.

Flinthook, Sniper Elite 4, XCOM 2: War of the Chosen

Also think For Honor will not be mentioned.

I think part of it is that it's using the same ingredients that DayZ used to make it successful, but PUBG took out a couple of major faults with the DayZ model

1. They solved the problem with DayZ had with campers and people hoarding supplies from newbies with both the blue wall of death and the red zones. They forced those people to move and while there are still some camping and sniping in PUBG, it wasn't as bad as DayZ was.

2. Increased the spawn rates for weapons and equipment. The biggest obstacle new players faced with DayZ was the constant search for anything, especially if you weren't on the high spawn servers. There were many people I heard from that they wished they could experience DayZ like others did, but they got tired trying to survive to find food, water, and shitty weapons.

Literally, the first thing I said when i started playing the game was "Oh cool, this is somewhat like DayZ without the tedious bullshit".
