Games/DLC/Etc. I Completed in 2017 *INCOMPLETE BECAUSE LAPTOP CRASHED*

I don't have anything clever to say here year after year.

List items

  • Prologue Complete: January 1 (Normal Difficulty, Co-Op)

So far, so good. It's definitely a Gears game. It's nice to get a small bit of history before Gears 1 in playable form.

    Act 1 Complete: January 1

Pretty good act. Can't wait until Act 2, that one seems like it will be pretty good.

    Act 2 Complete: January 1

Decided to stop here since it was nearly 4:30 in the morning, but Act 2 was really cool. The return of Marcus and a pretty slick motorcycle chase sequence was really neat.

Act III Complete: January 7th or 8th (forgot to update this when I did it)

Act IV and Campaign Complete: January 15th

Overall I liked the story in the game. Like the Kombat Kids in Mortal Kombat X, I liked the new generation in this game. There were some interesting bits in this too, like the motorcycle bit and giant robots. The ending was left way too open though with no real resolution to the grander issues which was a shame. Still fun though.

  • Season of Infamy DLC/Expansion Complete: January 4

Overall I liked this DLC, especially since it's integrated into the story in a way through side missions. Mad Hatter's was a bit boring but it was closer to the beginning of the game. I liked the story in Ra's part of the DLC. The story stuff with Croc in particular was interesting and apparently more in-line with his comic book origins. I also liked the end to Freeze's side quest. So all in all, a pretty good bit of DLC.

    Campaign Complete: January 6

Did most of the side quests, so I'm about 86% of the way to being done before I can get the true ending. Doubt I'll do it right away, if at all, but we'll see. Overall I really liked this game, even the Batmobile parts for the most part. Going to do the DLC stuff soon.

Red Hood Story Pack Complete: January 6

Took a few tries to do the Predator part of this pack, but fighting was pretty fun once I got used to his limited (but lethal) arsenal. Story was a bit weak though, but I liked the last scene at least since it showed he really isn't like Batman (though most will likely already know that)

  • Tutorials Complete: January 14

I wanted to wait for that update that changes a later chapter since people seemed so down on it, but I also really wanted to start the game. Guess the latter won out.

    Lore Guide Read: January 14

Since its tied to the tutorial I thought I would go ahead and check out what lore is there. It adds very little to what Kingsglaive and Brotherhood gave for lore and backstory, but there's a little more info there. Time to start the game proper.

    Chapter 1 Complete: January 15

Would have kept playing through some more hunts, but despite being overleveled (thanks, Cactuar!) I still had pitiful weapons so the hunts were becoming too difficult despite being around the same level as them. So I decided to finish this chapter. Good introduction to the playable characters and I love their banter and Prompto's photographs. Kingsglaive definitely made the last section of this chapter easier to understand. Was also able to fight and kill one daemon, though it took several potions and a few rescues to do so. I really enjoy this game so far.

    Chapter 2 Complete: January 15

Well that was actually an accident. Was a rather short chapter to be sure. Will definitely be traveling around more from now on.

    Chapter 3 Complete: January 20

Spent a lot more time doing side quests this time around. Felt like it gave me more of a chance to get to know my friends and boy do I love them. Guess its time to keep going now though.

    Chapter 4 Complete: January 21

Did a lot more quests and even got Noct's Ultima Blade. That last fight was quite the sight. This game is a blast so far, and I doubt I'll be slowing down at all for quite some time. Might even play through the whole game before that late game changing patch comes out. I can't see myself stopping any time soon.

    Chapter 5 Complete: January 21

Decided to do this one quick since it limited me a bit. Thankfully there wasn't anything much for me to do for sidequests, and it gave me a chance to finally give Chocobo a chance.

    Chapter 6 Complete: January 22

Did about all I can do with side quests outside of hunts until I go further into the game, so I continue on. Got one or two more Royal Arms out of the way too, and I've been able to do both summons I have up to this point at least once. Still having a blast, though I'm not sure how I feel about this next chapter just yet. Saved twice before I started it though in case I feel like doing more beforehand.

    Chapter 7 Complete: January 22

Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, considering the name of the chapter. No side quests done other than one of Prompto's camera outings. The game definitely becomes more linear at this point though, going by how Chapter 8 starts.

    Chapter 8 Complete: January 24

Guess not as linear as I thought. Definitely prolonged this one for as long as I could, but eventually there wasn't much left for me to do but do hunts and wait for things to happen, so I'm moving on now. Guess I can come back later though. Time to leave my home country with my brothers.

    Chapter 9 Complete: January 25

The boss fight was pretty epic, in my opinion. The music really helped with that. Fairly short chapter all around, with a bittersweet end that I doubt will get better for some time.

    Chapter 10 Complete: January 25

I was right, I guess. While it slowed things down, I was surprised at how they handled this chapter due to what happened during the last one. Time to move on.

    Chapter 11 Complete: January 25

Well that was short. Can I just say I really like and hate Ardyn in equal measure? I think he's funny at times, but clearly someone I can also definitely hate. Was neat to have to defend a train, not really a lot of games I've played where we fight on trains very often.

    Chapter 12 Complete: January 25

Some big reveals here, that's for sure. I kind of appreciate the linearity a bit later on. Not because its more fun, but its nice to have a bit more focus on the task at hand, especially since things are about to hit the fan I'm sure.

    Chapter 13 Complete: January 26

Mixed feelings, ahoy! I have plenty of bad to say about this chapter, but its all been said already. If this had happened earlier in the game then maybe it would have been easier to swallow. But late in the game when you've likely gathered a bunch of weapons and power? Nah, man. I really liked the story stuff later in the chapter though, thus my mixed feelings of this chapter. Guess it's almost time to finish this.

    Game Complete: January 26

I loved this game and am kicking myself for waiting until now to play it. This may have been my Game of the Year last year, no joke. It's sweet that the credits show all of the photos you've saved throughout the game, gives it personality. This game has also made me want to check out Florence + The Machine, their cover of Stand By Me is really good. What a great game of four brothers on an amazing journey.

    Randolph Questline Complete: January 28

Didn't have much difficulty with most of these thanks to summons and magic, the only two I had any real trouble with were the two Sir Tonberry's and the final one. Now I guess the real postgame begins?

    Costlemark Dungeon Complete: January 28

Eff. This. Dungeon. I would rather go through multiple Chapter 13s than go through this again. Ended up being warped back to the beginning twice and had to do it a third time to save and quit to fix a camera glitch that prevented me from continuing. I did it though, and now I'm moving on and never looking back.

All Royal Arms Obtained: January 29

Well if I knew the last one I needed (Bow of the Clever) was so simple, I would have done it right after the dungeon that shall not be named. Got them all though and that's another trophy down towards getting the Platinum.

  • Pokemon Moon Campaign Complete: January 16

My thoughts are basically still the same as when I posted my completion of Pokemon Sun late last year. Still have the post game content to do, I imagine my next 3DS game to play through will be Persona Q. Owned it since launch and started it up once, but never got more than five minutes into it. I think its time now that I'm becoming a bit more of a mobile game player (at least at work)

  • Yuffie Joined Party: February 7 (PS4 Version)

I've been playing this for about a week or two now, but I wasn't sure when I should be putting my progress into the list without doing it for every dungeon, which seemed like a waste for me (I'm not ZombiePie, after all!) so I felt this was a good spot to put something in as a placeholder. Might try to update this more frequently than (Did Optional Thing/Finished a Disc/Completed the Game) or what have you.

    Vincent Joined Party: February 13

Darn, should have waited one more day for this one, then I could have made a Valentine joke! Oh well.

    Cid Joined Party: February 14

Now I have a full party and I guess I'm nearing the end of Disc 1. Time for some sidequests!

Aerith's Final Limit Break Learned: February 15

I'm also currently in the Temple of the Ancients,so I'm nearly done with Disc 1.

    Disc 1 Complete: February 16

Guess the PS4 blocks the infamous scene at the end of this disc. I'm glad to be going through all this again since I originally reached the very end of Disc 3 nearly a decade ago and never finished it. I feel like I'm making good progress so far, what with my work and social schedule.

    Highwind Obtained: February 18

Well they've upped the use of the better looking cutscenes this time around when compared to Disc 1. I also really like the music that plays before you get the Highwind (when things are beginning to look really bad in town)

Red XIII and Cait Sith's Final Limit Breaks Learned: February 18

Decided to grind everyone's Limit Breaks to as far as I could at this point in the story. Had Red's manual since I got Vincent and Cait Sith only has the second level so it wasn't hard to grind that one out. Might do more sidequests sometime later.

  • Prologue Complete: February 9

Well I don't think I'm going to like the "mascot" character, what with it constantly inserting "the" into sentences and words when it isn't needed. Otherwise I don't have a problem with the game yet outside of combat being a bit too slow.

    Chapter 1 Complete: February 9

Well my last problem got a bit of a fix thanks to the tutorials saying you can speed things up a bit. I liked the opening credits.

  • Did the First Campaign: February 10 (PC, Co-Op, Normal Difficulty)

I can't recall the name of it, played it at a friend's house co-op. Seems they changed up a few things, but we didn't get too deep into it though.

  • Ryu/Ken Story Mode Complete (PS3, Co-Op) and Versus Mode Played: February 11

I'm disappointed it took me this long to realize that Ken and DMC 3/4 Dante are voiced by the same guy. We played a good bit of this before we saw Video Games Live and it's still pretty fun though its been about five years since I last played it so I couldn't remember some of the inner workings of the game.

  • Demo 120161128 Complete: February 19 (PS4)

Well that was fun, and makes me curious how messed up this game will get (it IS a Yoko Taro joint, after all)
