The Debate.

Sup guys, anyone enjoying some sweet SFIV action? I know I am for sure. Anyone want to brawl on PS3 my ID is snake6phw. What I want to know, is do you guys prefer using the D-Pad? Or the analog stick? I can't seem to get comfortable using the D-pad even though I'm pretty sure it allows for more precision. Diagonals are tough on a D-pad.

Games that no PS2 collection should be without...

What do you guys think? Besides the obvious ones like MGS or God War. I'm trying to build up a nice library of PS2 games that I can be proud of because1) I Feel that there are so many great games for the PS2 that I didn't even know existed and 2) they are cheaper than buying new games. So just leave me a comment with a list of your favorite PS2 games and at the very least I'll make sure to give them a look.

Genghis very much enjoys Twinkies

I'm totally getting into horror games. But, I used to be completely unable to play them because I was just too much of a baby. It was Dead Space, that amazing game. After playing Dead Space I just want more, and its kind of fun. Don't get me wrong, I'm

still terrified. I have trouble playing more than an hour of F.E.A.R. at a time. I made sure to place a reserve down on F.E.A.R. 2, so now I have no choice but to finish it.

I'm also enjoying my christmas gift, LittleBigPlanet. I am really captivated by its charm, and I can't wait to unlock everything so I can get started on creating my own levels. Problem with that is, I've spent much more time playing community levels than I have with the story mode because I find it so much fun to see what people are creating. If anyone has PSN and LBP and wants to co-op with me, my Playstation ID is snake6phw. That also applies to Xbox Live and pretty much everything else. I don't like creating multiple screennames.

My other christmas gift was a Wii, but I haven't been able to play it yet because I'm waiting for my VGA cable to arrive so I can hook it up to my monitor. Is No More Heroes really the party people are saying it is? I have my doubts. I'm mainly excited for Super Mario Galaxy and Sam and Max (Yes!). I'd prefer to play Twilight Princess on the Gamecube, because it is a big deal to me having Link be left-handed like he should be. I understand that the majority of earth's population would be comfortable with a right-handed Link and motion controls, but lets not mess with the young boy's established traits shall we? Zelda purists like myself should have a problem with it.

Anyone else read comics? Wolverine #70. OMG.

Later Chaps.

1080p? or 60-inch TV? That is the rhyming question.

Maybe they don't rhyme so much.

Either way, the aforementioned question is this one. Would you prefer to play your console of choice (in my case it's either of the big three) on a 22-inch 1080p computer monitor or on a 60-inch non-HiDef television?

See, I recently acquired a 60-inch rear projection television from an associate of my father. This man happens to be very rich and outfits himself with new TVs every other month, so the 60-inch was free. I am unsure at this point as to the resolution of the television as I do not have it at my house yet. I have a real obsession with quality, I find it really hard to play video games on standard-def TVs anymore, and if this TV doesn't live up to my expectations I don't think I'll be using it for gaming.

What do you guys think?

Recently in the life of..

Hey guys, whats up. I realize this is my first blog post in over a month, and I would like to take a little time to explain where I am currently at. After holding down two jobs to sate my greed, I decided to quit the shittier one and work full time at the one I actually enjoy. I now work full-time at my local GameStop and am making quite the impression on my boss. I know the general consensus most of the gaming world has on the GameStop chain of stores but frankly, I feel that most of it is either a) unfounded or b) people going along with the crowd. Either way, after only working there for a little over a month I have been offered the job of third in command manager but unfortunately was unable to accept the position as quickly as the store manager would have liked and was passed up. My store manager assures me that after the holiday season when he moves to a new store that he'll be taking me with him to be his assistant manager there. Yay for me!

Like most of you, I have an awful amount of games that I need to play and an awfully short amount of time in which to play them. Currently on my list (in no particular order) are, Fallout 3, Dead Space, FarCry 2, Gears of War 2, Left 4 Dead, Sonic Unleashed, Spiderman Web of Shadows, Crysis Warhead, Chrono Trigger, Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass, and Hotel Dusk Room 215. That's 11 games. They're all pretty good too.

I am super excited for Christmas this year, not for the gifts I am recieving which is very much out of character for me, but for the gifts I am giving. I am stoked that I was able to get all three seasons of the original Star Trek on remastered DVD for my father, who is a HUGE Star Trek fan. I personally, was never into it, with its cheesy special effects and dull acting, but I am coming around after seeing the trailer for the new Star Trek film which looks incredible. For my mother I got a book called Hammer of the Gods which is about Led Zeppelin, and my mother being an avid reader and Zeppelin fan will for sure love it. My sister is actually pretty into Spore, so I got her the new parts pack, along with the collector's edition. Even though she allready has it, I think she may appreciate all the extra content. For my girlfriend (who by the way is the same girlfeind who I say I broke off with in a previous blog, I realized I was being a total dickhead and we patched things up) I got her a Kodak digital picture frame, a shit load of Twilight swag (which me and her are crazy about), and a very pretty silver necklace because she is severely lacking in the jewelry department.

Sorry for the long leave of absence guys, I was lurking for awhile and didn't really have anything to blog about.

Totally. Bummed.

Since yesterday I've been doing something.. something I wish I weren't. What is this thing you ask? Try to play even a tiny bit of Fallout 3. I want so badly to play this game, as I have heard nothing but good things about it. I got the PC version, because it just feels better to me to be playing roleplaying games on the PC. I have had a crash to desktop every single time I try to start a new game. I can watch the opening cinematic just fine, when that ends, CTD. I even got to play the entire tutorial, then when I went to leave the vault, CTD. Every. Time. I only got to play the tutorial after using process-of-elimination to turn off certain graphics options (eventually just for-going shadows all together), and even this didn't stop the crashes, now would I have been pleased if it had, because I have no problems graphically with ANY other game I play, and shouldnt have to disable shadows entirely to be able to play.

I wish it worked, this game looks spectaculatr.

Sad,

Snake

PS: anyone who suggests anything they have read anywhere regarding ffdshow, I do not have the codec, cant find it anywhere on my system, so that isn't the problem.

SpooOOoooky...

I'm a huge baby when it comes to horror games. I'm not talking Half-life, which happens to hold a special place in my heart, I'm talking horror games. I just wanted to get that out of the way up front. So when all my buddies at GameStop told me how awesome Dead Space was, I repeatedly told them that I would have no part of it. But I could not resist for long, I caved. And I have to admit, I'm loving every minute of it.

He won't stop until he has no other choice.

Dead Space is a perfect survival/horror game. It does everything that the genre needs to do right. In order for a game of this type to fully immerse you, it needs to rid itself of all of the pieces that remind players that they are in fact, playing a game. This includes the HUD, menus, loading screens, BAD voice acting, etcetera. Guess what? Dead Space has none of that, other wise why would I bother writing the previous sentence. This is a prime example of storytelling done through gameplay (as opposed to cinematics and narrations) done right. The game also manages to remain incredibly authentic to the story it's trying to tell. It should only make sense that an engineer would use tools instead of military grade weapons to fight his enemies right? Which is why the games "strategic dismemberment system" makes so much sense for this game. It's not just another gimmick thought up by the dudes at EA, its an actual effective and completely fresh way of dispatching your foes. Instead of taking a shot to the head and calling it quits like 99.99% of shooter enemies do, the necromorphs in Dead Space are relentless. They will not stop coming untill you have dismembered them to the point that their bodies cannot possibly continue onward. Enemies cut off at the legs will crawl towards you, enemies cut off at the head will blindly stagger in your direction, flailing wildly in hopes of catching you in their grasps. It makes for really frentic gameplay that fits perfectly with the mood and atmosphere of the genre. Instead of relying on the traditional "tight corridors with enemies hiding behind the corner ready to jump out right in your face" technique, Dead Space WANTS you to know your enemies are coming, and that they will not stop untill they have no other choice.

I'm only just through the first chapter, but I can tell that this will be a wild ride. There have been plenty of "OH SHIT" moments, and a couple "OH SHIT OH SHIT OH SHIT" moments. A veteran gamer like me wasn't fooled by the ole playing dead trick, but still, neato. All in all, I highly recommend Dead Space, if it isn't a contender for game of the year, it would by a wide margin win best atmosphere of the year, were it a real award.

I hate October. And It hates my wallet. I have only scraped the tip of the iceberg, and there are many more holiday titles for me to play. I am having a hard time choosing what I want to buy now, and what I want to wait untill X-mas for. I know for sure I am getting Fallout 3 and LittleBigPlanet on thursday, and Resistance 2 when it comes out. The other games I'm still debating on date of purchase (not playing, I'm definitely playing all of the following) are: Smackdown vs. Raw 2009, Midnight Club: LA, Spider-man: Web of Shadows (which I'm not so sure about anymore...), Rock Band 2, a Nintendo DS, and probablly some others I am forgetting.

By the way, Far Cry 2? Still amazing. <3 <3 <3...

Later dudes,

-snake
