Feel free to add who you think would enjoy your suggestion

Try to only recommend good games, or at least notable ones

Why? Discovering/learning about cool games is one of the core things I like about GB

Gunvolt: Luminous Avenger iX 2 - seems like a Jason game

Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth - Also seems like a Jason game, potentially a Gerstmann game with his fondness for Axiom Verge 2

Anything from Inti Creates is worth a glimpse

Record of Lodoss War has gorgeous pixel art and the comments all echo ‘this game is awesome, wish there was more’

We’re still in the opening era of the generation. Devs are still realizing the graphical/loading/AI potential of the new consoles, and this takes more effort & resources than ever. We usually see more idea-driven games after the new performance frontiers have been explored.

The other thing is pay attention to indies. I am the type that prefers a tightly honed platformer with nice pixel art. There are a *ton* of indies that approach games as an interactive medium. This is where a lot of evolution in the genre is happening.

I resonate particularly with something @Kyary wrote,

“ I think the general pattern is that small games are as innovative as they've ever been, but the big games are more risk-averse than ever, only moving into new game design when they're sure it'll work (and this would be true regardless of console cycles)”

Well it appears to be more the Super Mario World style of world, compared to Super Mario Odyssey.

I’m pretty hyped honestly.

I played Robobot (my nephew still replays it), and the 3D mini-game they added there controls well and left me wanting a 3D Kirby.

If they build on that foundation with how it plays, and add interesting objectives / new powers, it’s gonna be great.

Whether it is a strong Kirby game, or the next iconic Nintendo great, is up to how many ideas they took off the Nintendo R&D bookshelf, and how much time they spent refining it.

^on that note, looks like it’s developed solely by HAL, so maybe no R&D ideas at all. However, it’s been 5 years since HAL’s last major release (the pause between Robobot & Star Allies with 2 years). Temper your expectations, but I’d say this bodes well.

Next direct when

-Been keeping up with a mobile game I’ve played for a few years now

-guiding the niece through her first BotW run

-Mercenaries Blaze - this is an indie Game by FlyHighWorks & Circle. It’s a simple, heavily-inspired-by-FFT-and-Ogre-Battle SRPG. There have been a bunch of them and they’ve grown into their own thing over the years. Solid and satisfying, with more than enough customization and some challenge. Good unique weapon/forging system. The series used to be called ‘Mercenaries Saga.’ This one has new characters and no lore overlap with the older games, so I definitely recommend it if you like SRPGs and indie games.

-It’s time to start up a new game, actually.

I watched a couple of the Classic Tetris Championship streams. I also discovered them accidentally. I think it was tough to watch one that didn’t have Jonas on it.

Extremely skilled. Gracious in victory and defeat. Seemed genuinely kind and happy to be doing what he was doing.

That moment where you and Jan were flipping through your school notebook and you drew a Diglett that was the size of a skyscraper, and Jan said something like, ‘I’m beginning to understand young Ben.’

Also Ranking of Fighters and Ben Apetit. You will be missed, Ben.
