Best of 2020!
Its a weird year. Lots of stuff got put on hold because of the virus. I feel like by the end of the year it was still pretty strong though? Cyberpunk really let us down being released in a broken state. But could they do ANOTHER delay? yeah they should ave....
Animal Crossing missed a lot of marks, (it should have been much better than it was; standing on the shoulders of giants - from New leaf it should have been my favorite game of all time and it falls short of that). But because of the virus it sold gangbusters, (more than it probably should have). Other than that Nintendo has been quiet, with just some Mario stuff and a Hyrule Warriors game (which sold really well even though it runs like crap, its just there was NOTHING else on Switch). Switch fans just eat anything up.
I'm not even that into some of the big games this year - like Doom 2 and Resident Evil 3 remake which seemed to not wow fans either.
Sony was by far the strongest contender with the PS5 launch (even though it seems buggy), and some big titles like Ghosts, Last of Us, Miles Morales, Demons Souls, and Sack Boy.
I am weary of some games -- FF7 for example, i didn't like the original, and it seems to not really improve that much, it looks nice, but im not dying to try it. -- I think ill wait for a "complete edition" of FF7 some years down the road.
And its the end of a generation for both Xbox and Sony. Sony end with some of its biggest games ever, Xbox seems to be trying to get anything it can for a weird launch window. i cant think of a single non-3rd party game Id want on Xbox? Which is weird because games should be their focus as they try to push Game Pass which i do enjoy, I'm playing Carto on there right now. Their launch feels weird to me because they really seem to be heading to launching Gamepass soon on TVs and such, why drop $500 on a system where you'll probably just play Game Pass? I'm very interested to come back to this in 2 years and see what the landscape looks like then.
But there was still some great stuff, and a pretty good year all around, I think Sony pushed this to be a very strong year:
