There is no such thing as 100% BC for PS3.  I have a 60gb and it is 99.1% fully BC, sadly some of my fav games are not BC on it.
The later 80gb models are about 85% BC.
Current models are 0% BC"

My ordered PS3 is coming this week as well, at least, I hope it is.

Yeah, unfortunately your PS3 (Like mine) will have no capability to play PS2 Games.

I have only had my PS3 for a month so far and only have Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Resistance 2.  I am really enjoying both games so far.  Once my next paycheck comes in, I'll probably get Killzone 2 when it releases later this month.

Wipeout HD is good, but I recommend Everyday Shooter, if you haven't played it on the PC yet.  Be sure to check out Uncharted, if you can.  I suggest a rental for that title if that option is available to you in the UK.  Also, Burnout Paradise performs very well on the PS3 but you may want to look at Motorstorm 2.  I haven't tried that title, yet, so I can't suggest it, but I did play the original, and it's not worth you time.

Also, rent or buy a couple of Blu-ray movies.  At first, the level of detail may be jarring, but once you get used to it, you'll never feel as comfortable watching films in any other format.  Becareful though, because not all Blu-rays are crafted with the same level of quality.

By the way, I play my 360 and PS3 about an equal amount of time.

Awesome man, definite congrats!  Yeah, the only thing is that if you purchased a new model, none of them are backwards compatible.  But like Sammy said, I am sure you already know that...have fun with that PS3 bro!

Uh-oh. The only thing I'd say is (and I'm sure you realise) not all PS3 models are backwards compatible.

I recommend Wipeout HD from the PSN Store but there are tons of similar threads to this with plenty of recommendations.

Congrats on the PS3 by the way, it's a great system.

Just a small update from me to let you all know I finally caved and ordered myself a PS3 yesterday, thought I have been fighting it for a while now I just felt the games coming up were looking good and the  urge to play through Solid Snakes final mission was getting to strong to resist!

With it I have got myself MGS4, Little Big Planet, Madden 09 and Saints Row 2 as well as an extra controller and a few bits I went out to buy today. Was going to buy myself a headset but preordered SOCOM Confrontation instead which comes packaged with it (Not released in the UK for almost 2 months!). So really I wanted to know what you guys think of the PS3, and what games should I pick up for it?

I have to say I never thought I would like LBP but having played it for a few hours over a friends house I quite enjoyed the charming mechanic and I am really loving User generated content games right now.

Another great factor in getting a PS3 was the fact I still have a few of my classic PS2 games sitting on a shelf that I am hoping to break out soon. (Final Fantasy 7-12, Driver games, All Metal Gear Solid Releases, Gran Turismo 3 - All games I played constantly way back when!) 

So all in all I am quite happy, I think I waited long enough for the games to be a bit better priced and could have waited a little longer for the console to go down in pricve later in the year but hey, I still love my 360 and dont think anything Sony has to offer on the online multiplayer option has anything to come near to the great Xbox Live releases that are around, so my Xbox wont get forgotten!
