Vote with your wallets. But yeah, I hear you and completely agree. I think it is something we will see more of in the future as storytelling is now becoming a new primary focus in this industry moving forward. I pre-ordered Heavy Rain, and even through it's faults I loved it. The convergence of gameplay and story increases more ever year. And that's a good thing. I seriously believe the era of "pure shooters" is coming to an end as the FPS genre is turning into the "Action" genre. And I do think we will see more of a blend of  genres to the point where it won't be called "FPS" or "RPG" but rather described by their atmosphere. eg. "Thriller", "Horror", "Sci-fi". So basically your concept will most likely happen, if not already happening.

I recently got a new TV, like a couple of weeks ago and I totally understand what you mean. In the end I got an 1080P LED Backlit 3DTV, (and it came with a bonus x-box 360, natal and 3 games :D) all for a good price (The Good Guys, Australia,) And the TV is awesome. I also have a normal Samsung HDTV 1080p, and that's good as well. Just make sure  you BUY AN HDMI CABLE for your consoles...trust me. I had lag without the cable for my PS3. The HDMI completely fixed that problem.

@Palaeomerus: Ok, then fine, I get it. "Nobody cares about my opinion", yet here your are replying back to me with slabs of information dissecting my arguments. I also understand your theory of as long as it keeps selling, they should keep making it. I understand, but I don't agree. I would've agreed with your maybe 4 years ago, but now my perspective has shifted.

There is this franchise, that everybody loved/loves, a franchise so big it defined a genre and a generation. I'm talking about Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy 7 was my first RPG, and one of my first games.  And is one of my favorite titles ever. Final Fantasy 10 was cool, but didn't suck me in like FF7. FF12 I hated. FF13, I was optimistic, but at the end disappointed. I guess this is not only representative of a franchise but the Japaneses industry as a whole. We have to move forward. We have to continue to innovate. We have to do new things, explore newer worlds. Rockstar recently release Red Dead Redemption, a western. Looking forward, L.A Noire, a 1940 crime drama. Agent, a spy-espionage during the Cold-war era. As much as I love GTA, (and Im love my GTA!) I would rather see these come out instead of another GTA.

I was playing Heavy Rain when it came out, and we had some family over, after a while everyone just stopped what they were doing and starred watching the TV. Literally whispering to each other, "Wow, what is this, are you playing this?". After that, I shit you not, some of the parents were talking about the PS3, how much it was, etc. and these are like people in their 40-50's. Sony put a lot of trust and money in that game, and it wasn't all perfect. But it never will be if they don't continue to invest in these types of experiences. Remember when we originally thought that shooters could not work on consoles? Halo came out and proved that wrong. And through iteration it has become the dominate genre on consoles.

@Palaeomerus: But why does there have to  be a new Halo every year? Why not have longer breaks in between? I never said that a racing genre has more importance over a story driven game, I used Forza and GT as "examples" of "big" games that still weren't big enough to match the popularity of Halo. You completely missed the point. Also about your comment of Microsoft not giving a shit about my opinion...mate, that not what I'm trying to accomplish here. It is called a "forum' for a reason, a place of discussion and "debate". Would you rather have every post saying how perfect everything is at the moment?

Your comment about Sony buying Guerrilla Games suddenly making the investment in their IP's irrelevant is dumb. Because THAT IS NOT THE POINT. It still doesn't change the fact that Sony "invested" in it. They bought them with the pre-conception of investing in them in the future. GG games recently announced they are working in a new IP currently. So it's not like Sony is think about making Killzone 6 at the moment. If they were it would be in a long time.

I am not saying that they should never ever make another Halo game, but rather there should be longer breaks. I love sequels, and because of that i don't want to see follow ups being make "purely" for the sake of money. If Bungie really wanted to make ODST and Reach, fine, thats cool. But if Microsoft interfered and was like, "look, I know you guys want to do something new, but please make us 2 more Halo games b4 you leave...do it for the invest- *cough* -fans"

I loved Tony Hawk back in the day, and now look at what they've done to it. That is what happens when a company doesn't take care of their franchises. I loved the music genre, now look at it. I don't want the same fate for Halo...and Assassins Creed(oh God Ubi, don't screw that up pleasseeeeee).

@Palaeomerus: Mate, first up, Resistance, inFamous and Killzone are just THREE of the many IP's Sony invested in. Killzone 2 wasn't even a new IP on the PS3. Get your facts right. LiitleBigPlanet, Motorstorm, Uncharted (conveniently missed that one out didn't you).  Even MAG. Whether you like them or not, at least there is a range and they are willing to do new things on top of the established IP's. I recently got an x-box 360 for Christmas and the first game I got was Mass Effect. I'm going to get Alan Wake and Gears of War next but other than that there are no more exclusives that interest me. The rest are just Halo. And I'm thinking of buying them just because there isn't any thing else. I buy my multi-platform games on the PS3 so the 360 need exclusives to keep me interested. What I am saying is if Microsoft keep making Halo's, then at least make some new IP's to balance that out, let there be more variety in the library!

Also there is a massive difference between a forza/GT and a story driven title like Halo. No matter how popular Forza and GT are they never got the die-hard fan reception during the Halo 3 launch. Halo 3, whether or not the game lived up to expectations, was special. There is a story arc and when that arc ends so should the game...at east for a long while before coming back. I understand it is a business, but don't forget where this began. Don't forget the humble indie developers making adventure games for the sake of gaming...not money and do so till this very day. What the industry has become should not overshadow how it became. And that is why, my fellow readers, Bungie wanted to become independent again, Microsoft would have kept telling them to make Halo titles.

@xyzygy:  I'm a Catholic, and Assassin's Creed is one of my favorite franchises ever. Totally love the fiction, but I don't really get offended, however I do get a bit sad at how corrupt the 14th-15 centuries were. And speaking of the AC fiction, we really need a Giant Spoilercast for Assassins Creed 3.  That would seriously be a good conversation.  Back to why the Church haven't done anything, well I'm not sure, but Assassin Creed do really pay a lot of respect to that era. Its not really primarily against the Church teachings, but more about the Templars who just happened be working with and using a corrupt Church. And at the beginning of the game it pops up with that message from the dev team. Or maybe it's just the sign of the times moving on.

@ShaneDev: It does matter because the sequel fatigue gets rid of the "hype/event" factor. If they keep releasing sequels every year, how am I supposed to miss it enough to care about the next one? I'm afraid the same thing is going to happen to Assassin's Creed.  You've seen it happen to Medal of Honor, Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero. Sure, you could make the point that those tittles deteriorating in quality effected sales. But the core experience of Guitar Hero was still intact. People lost interest, they were not compelled anymore because there was no excitement. I remember when GTA4 was coming out and before the launch there was literally a genuine excitement amongst the internet/world and that translated to sales. And that feeling is awesome! I understand what you mean, and it is a point I've thought about but the problem is, it doesn't feel special anymore. Take a break, make me want you and then I'll be excited.
