Loved from my childhood, but how did it age? 0

If I were to tell you of a game featuring a mustached main character in overalls and a hat jumping on foes and collecting coins, you would probably think I was referring to another Mario game. And you would be right, for this is indeed a Mario game, but in title alone. No the character who takes center stage in this platformer is Mario’s evil brother (?) Wario in Warioland: Super Mario Land 3. Aside from a quick character change, this game plays and feels like a Mario game, but it also proves th...

Even with its shortcomings, GT5 is still one of the best 0

If you ever had an interest in racing for real, chances are you are familiar with the Gran Turismo series. This franchise of games has continually pushed the lines of how close a simulation can imitate reality. That has been their mission since the first Gran Turismo game graced the original PlayStation all those years ago. Now decades later and 3 iterations of that Sony hardware, we finally get Gran Turismo 5, the true driving simulation experience in high definition. Polyphony Digital has work...

Did you like the top down Zeldas? Well then I this is for you! 0

If I were to tell you this is a game where you go on an adventure through seven temples including a water temple, to save a princess and defeat an evil plaguing the land all the while getting helpful support from a fairy companion what might you think? Well thankfully this fairy’s name isn’t Tinkle and this game isn’t Zelda, it only acts like it is. 3D Dot Game Heroes is basically a nudge-wink to the great Zelda games and adventure games in general. The best part is the game is self aware of thi...

I wouldn't pass up what could be your last chance to play these! 0

There is, unfortunately, a good chance that you are not aware of the two titles in this HD compilation. They flew under a lot of radars, mine included. But trust me when I tell you that this collection has two of the best PlayStation 2 games ever to grace the console. And trust me, they have done a good job bringing it onto the PS3. It even has 3D if you’re into that sort of thing, which I’m not. There are a few haters out there who diss on the game just because their feeble minds can’t comprehe...

It has it's charm but not sure its worth the price 0

So appropriate for the time, or perhaps it isn’t fall when you read this, Costume Quest sees the adventure of brother (or sister depending on who you select) trying to save their sibling from an evil witch bent on taking all of the Halloween candy for herself. She has an army of minions go to the houses and steal the candy from the occupants. As the main character, you must fight your way through 3 levels, collecting candy along the way to the epic climax where the fate of all of the children’s ...

Not often a coop campaign feels this good 0

Even if you examine Castle Crashers as a full legitimate game, this title still holds itself up pretty well. If you are like me, you are iffy on the whole buying a digital game thing, but the developers of this title make sure you feel as though you get your money’s worth here. This fact is evident in the games length and replay-ability. For the price, the length of the campaign feels perfect. There are something like 30 dynamic levels that flow into each other and culminate in about 10 or 15 bo...

A Paradise City for Speed Junkies 0

If you were just thinking of moving to Paradise City, you might want to rethink that. What with the constant vehicular carnage that spews across the streets and intersections of the city. Maybe we weren’t talking about the same Paradise City? I was of course referring to the setting of Criterion’s racing masterpiece, Burnout: Paradise. There really is not a whole lot of negative things to say about this iteration in the long running Burnout series. With a fantastic marriage of racing game and op...

Yes those things you heard about Bioshock are true. 0

So you remember about 5 years ago when you heard all those lovely things about a little game called Bioshock? Yeah, well turns out that wasn’t just a coincidence. Even though this game came out in 2007, Bioshock is still a testament to game development for the single player experience and you would be CRAZY to pass up this opportunity to see just what comes close to being one of the best games I have ever played. Okay let me take the excitement back down a notch. It is true that Bioshock is one ...

Resonance of Fate Does one thing really well. The rest, eh 0

I could tell you Resonance of Fate is a fantastic game, but that would be lying. That is not to say, however, that it is a bad game, but with major elements of what makes a great game falling short of the mark, I am hard pressed to recommend this title as a must play. To focus on what the game does right however, Tri-Ace, no stranger to the role-playing genre (see Star Ocean III) decided to buddy up with Sega to make something a bit more unique. Stripping away a lot of what makes a typical entry...

Enlist in Bad Company today! 0

Battlefield: Bad Company is a refreshing take on the tired modern era first-person shooter.   Instead of focusing on ultra serious “this is what it could be like” mentality, Bad Company goes for the more half-hearted approach.   Half-hearted in that it can be serious, but those moments are usually broken up by an off the wall remark from the company’s designated funny man Haggard.   Along with the trademark geed Sweetwater, the no nonsense sergeant Redford, and the new guy Marlow, the squad che...

Plagued by fundemental flaws Bionic Commando never quite recovers 0

Remakes are becoming more and more popular these days.   With publishers struggling to come up with new and exciting IP’s its not hard to see why they also take a look back at what old IP could strike it big.   Bionic Commando is an example of Capcom doing just this.   Along with the remake of the classic NES game, they decided to reboot the IP entirely with a current gen release.   For fans of the good old days, you might want to think that they succeeded in this endeavor.   But Bionic Command...

Call of Juarez: Bound In Blood, a game for fans of the old west 0

It is hard to find a good first-person shooter that does something different these days.   A lot have come and gone, not leaving much of an impact in their wake.   Not too many have something new to bring to the table.   Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood may not be as impressive as, say, Modern Warfare, but that’s not to say it doesn’t have anything at all to offer.   It is one of the few games to take a stab at a time in history when gunfights weren’t measured by who has the better weapon, or who...

Assassin's Creed II makes a fantastic game even better. 0

The first Assassin’s Creed came out of the gate running.   It was a stealth game that had intense action.   It’s construction and gameplay elements were so revolutionary that it had other developers trying to keep up.   For everything Assassin’s Creed did right, it was still a game that had its share of flaws.   With Assassin’s Creed II, it is clear that the mentality going into this sequel was, “Lets make the same game but make it better.”   And make it better they did.   ACII might not be as ...

Dark Athena Will Please Fans Of The Films, But Not Many Else. 0

In a post Modern Warfare world of First Person Shooters, it is becoming incredibly hard for up and coming franchises to hold their own against the heavy weights.   The latest offering from the Riddick fiction, Assault on Dark Athena, proves to be just another victim in a long list of coming close, but not quite close enough.   Even with a strong presentation, and added incentives, this title fails to attract anything more then fans of the series.   All that being said however, this game does a ...

Battlefield On A PS2? Why not? 0

Battlefield 2: Modern Combat marks the debut of the EA's hit franchise on the PlayStation2 system and the first time they have taken the ground breaking series off of its well established computer roots. Though it may not be as captivating as the computer counterpart, it does pretty well in the fierce, competitive world of shooters on the console. Bringing its unique style to the table, Battlefield has always been about un-compromised, unrelenting combat on foot, in the sky, or behind the seat o...

This game provides days of entertainment with so much to do. 0

For those who have a bit of pirate in 'em, good old Sid Meier's got you covered. With a title that has Sid's name right on the box, you know your getting the ultimate in simulated experience. This time he takes you back to the late 1600's when pirating ravaged the Caribbean and the English, French, Dutch, and Spanish nations are fighting for control of it all. Sid's clever meld of mini-game action and strategic conquest push Sid Meier's Pirates! to the level you would expect coming from the fath...

5% Dynasty Warriors, 75% Gundam, 20% Wasted Potential 0

Dynasty Warriors has always been one of those games where you either like it or you don’t. Ever since my first experience with the series, Dynasty Warriors 3, I have always enjoyed getting a friend of mine together and thrashing some Yellow Turbans. The game has never been especially impressive but it has always maintained itself in my collection all these years. The most recent iteration, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam, holds true to what you would expect, for the most part. It isn’t exactly strong i...

If You Ever Wanted To Try A Dynasty Warriors Game, This Is It 0

You may or may not have played a Dynasty Warriors game by now. If you have you would know the basics of what to expect from this latest installment to the series. If you haven’t, well there really isn’t a real draw for the undecided that sit on the fence. However, I will say this much, if you ever wanted to try your hand at a Dynasty Warriors game, this is the one to do it. This game is the most polished and improved upon game in the series. Even with its lack of the traditional storylines, whic...

Before Online Consoles, This Was Multiplayer. 0

Unreal Tournament is a crazy game. At first glance you may just see a run of the mill first person shooter, you would be glancing inaccurately however. After it's release back in October of 2000 on the PS2, it quickly gained a reputation of being an overall great gaming experience. Rolling with this momentum, and stable franchise tucked under their belt, the developer decided to branch out into the online world of the internet where they really earned credibility. Any way you slice it, this game...

Thrillville Is Entertaining For The Family 0

Thrillville is a sim game not unlike your basic Roller Coaster Tycoons, or Sim Theme Parks that have set the bar. You fill the role of the Park Manager and busy yourself with countless missions in different parks much like you would expect. The difference is that this game experience is really streamlined for the general audience so you won’t find all that complexity of the other games. All in all however there really is a lot of game depth here for a stand-alone console game. Even though it may...

For A Console RTS, This One Isn't That Bad, Or Maybe It Is 0

Star Trek: Conquest may be many things, but an excellent game it is not. In a world of horrible console based RTS games, Bethesda decides they will use their Star Trek license to put forth a game that is unique, but all together unimpressive. Your first clue to this fact might be the price tag. Clocking in at a very attractive 14.99 price point (Unless you ask GameStop who tacks on 5 extra dollars because they love money!) you really can't expect much and the very fact that the game is so ridicu...

Fans Of The Series Will Know The Drill. 1

On the off chance that you don't already know, Medal of Honor is the World War II first person shooter developed by EA. In its long running history, this franchise has seen its high points and its low points in its nearly 10 year, 10+ title life-cycle. Medal of Honor: Vanguard continues the well-established framework and plays out much as you would expect it too. Unfortunately, it also shares much in common with its predecessor, European Assault. Though to some this might not be a bad thing, one...

See What Started It All. 0

Welcome to the Black Mesa Research Facility. With that one sentence, the entire world of video gaming as we knew it changed forever. Gordon Freeman became something of gaming legend. Everyone knows at least one aspect or another of his historical journey to the surface and beyond. The game of course is Half-Life, and it is quite hard to forget. Through its ingenious use of imagination, creativity, and programming, this game has left its mark in every first person shooter to date. This game is at...

Track Pack For 50 Bucks? 1

Who nowadays hasn’t gotten their proverbial rock on with some guitar hero by now? Whether it was Ozzy who did it for you in the first Guitar Hero or the sweet sound of the Allman Brothers from the second, chances are you have come across this phenomenon by now. Well in the style of milking cash cows for all they’re worth, Activision gives us yet another game to wet our appetites with. Which ordinarily would be a good thing, right? We have all heard it before so let me get it out of the way: Guita...

The PS2 Still Has Life In It! 1

Level 5 brings a superb adventure of space piracy and saving the galaxy in their latest title, Rogue Galaxy. Though the game is very traditional, as far as RPG's go, it doesn't follow the Japanese style per say, trading that in for the Star Ocean style instead. In fact you will notice quite a few similarities with this title and Star Ocean III. Luckily for all involved, Star Ocean was a fantastic game and this one is just as good if not a little better. Level 5 proves that you don't have to be a...

How Well Do They Transition To Modern Day? Pretty Damn Well! 0

Tired of seeing the same old places and same old things from the beaches of Normandy circa 1942? Well Infinity Ward is right there with you. Feeling that their popular World War II franchise is turning a bit stale, they thought they might take a new approach to that oh so tired out series. Ripped straight from the day's headlines, Call of Duty 4: Modern warfare puts you right in the thick of battle as it is today, not as it was 60 some odd years ago. It is arguably the best representation of a m...

Is This The Game PS3 Owners Have Been Waiting For? No. 0

With a guy like Slash on the cover, it must be good right? Heh, say what you will about the guy, half the people like him, the other half don't. I don't suppose you could guess which camp I fall into. But joking aside, does the next iteration of Guitar Hero live up to all the hype? Well that is the question. It is Guitar Hero, as you remember it, with a plethora of songs to be shredded on the new Wireless Les Paul. A few new additions attempt to bring the growing staleness of the title to new he...

It's A Long Way To The Top If You Wanna Rock 'n Roll 0

If you haven't heard of this phenomenal game by now surely you must have been living under a rock. With high marks across the board, this is the evolution of music rhythm games. This defines the very genre itself and pushes the bounds of what was once thought of as far as one could go. Taking the stale, been-there-done-that feeling of other competitors attempt at music rhythm games and completely blowing them apart, Rock Band is the definitive rock star experience. This title not only puts you i...

War May Have Changed But Kojima's Vision Sure Hasn't 0

It was once said that video games are not works of art, nor could they ever hope to be considered as such.  These naive individuals have obviously never seen a game made by Kojima Productions.  Hideo has been pushing the bounds of the story driven genre since his first introduction into the field.  His works are truly a testament for just how blurred the line between movie and game can be pushed.  The latest example, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, has truly become the definitive inter...

Salvation For Single Player Fans In A World Of Multiplayer Chaos 1

For anyone who has lost faith in the straight single player game in a world of online multiplayer madness, Assassin's Creed is that glimmer of hope you may be searching for. Finally there is a highly satisfying, and richly developed game that has been designed from the ground up to be a solo adventure like non other. This game shows you what a "current gen" one-player game can be and raises the bar for what is possible. You will find yourself with many moments of sheer excitement as you play thr...

Building Blocks + Classic Movie Trilogies = Good Ol' Family Fun 0

By now you are probably aware of the Lego phenomenon.  Take one part great movie classic, and introduce one part fun, lovable construction toy.  These games have taken the gaming industry by storm.  Going from “Hey that looks like it might be interesting,” to “What will be the next Lego-ized IP?” (Batman)  The simple fact is, like them or not, Lego games are here to stay.  After the monumental success of the Star Wars games, Indiana Jones was the next logical step.  Who doesn’t love the grail se...

All That Media Attention Means This Must Be Great! 0

If you are looking at this review, chances are you’re on the fence on the whole GTA money machine, for if you are a fan you would already possess this game and your bloodshot eyes would tell the tale of late nights and long days.  Well Grand Theft Auto IV may not sway those apposed to the whole general concept of the game altogether, it does offer the complete GTA experience, and then some, for those who are indeed undecided.  For those returning for the 7 time, or those looking to see what the ...
