I love this series.

Game suggestions: Bug and Bug Too! They’re horrid Gex-like games but they’re worse than Gex horseshit. Seriously, this can’t be understated.

Also, I think Shadow the Hedgehog absolutely ranks here.

One thing I wanted to point out: there’s an extended version of Gunjack’s ending from Tekken 3 that is not in Tekken 7. You had to do something special to unlock it but I don’t remember what. Here it is:

https://youtu.be/bEm7SXfLHmE

I’m predicting all the Tekken Tag 1 endings to be at the bottom of the dumper as they’re largely bad in addition to being non-canon. They’re such nothing bad endings. I would say they’re the worst in the series but I don’t remember Tekken 6’s endings well. And Tekken 7 is weird in that there’s the story mode stuff and kind of individual character endings but not really?

Speaking of Tekken Tag, one suggestion I’d like to make: when you get to Tekken Tag 2 and are about to watch Jinpachi’s ending watch the console Tekken Tag 2 intro first. That intro actually plays into his ending in a very key way (I’ll leave it up to y’all to decide if it’s funny or not).

Also it’s just a hype as fuck (and funny) intro that is basically the essence of Tekken IMO. Lol. Though Tekken intros are so strong you could almost do a mini ranking of those if you wanted (maybe after ranking the endings?). the Tekken Tag 1&2 console, Tekken Tag 2 Arcade and Tekken 5 console intros are all timers. I basically associate the Tag 1 intro with the PS2 boot up noise. lol

Glad y’all are enjoying this. Tekken is one of my favorite series. I got way into Mortal Kombat and Tekken lore as a teen so as dumb as some of this shit is I have a lot of love for it all. Also the CG endings really separated Tekken from other fighters at the time as most fighting game endings at the time of Tekken 1-3 were still images with text but by the end of the generation pretty much every fighter was copying Tekken. So the endings for the first three games especially really felt special to me at the time. Also Tekken got comedy in a way that I feel like few games did for a very long time.

Either way, I’m very excited about what y’all are doing with the site. Fun stuff, fun people. I hope you have fun with the rest of the endings.

Oh, if y’all ever decide to do another “watch all endings” type of video for another game I very much recommend Mortal Kombat 4. It wouldn’t take long but holy shit some of that stuff is just incredible. lol

Finally:

EDIT: Just wanted to add I would not have made the suggestion to watch the Tag 2 console intro before Jinpachi’s Tag 2 ending for lore reasons as I know that’s not what you guys are watching these for. You’re watching them for the over-the-top action or comedy. I made the suggestion I made because the Jinpachi bit in Tag 2’s intro is paid off with a joke in his ending is all. Not the end of the world if you guys don’t do this but just thought I would suggest it all.

Also, Tekken is where I learned about movies ending with Fin. My brother had to explain it to me.

So I want to see Jan play SH2. I love the SH series and while I’ve enjoyed this feature quite a bit I will say that I generally tell people to skip the first game. I have a love for it but it’s super clunky even for games of its vintage (RE1 from ‘96 I think feels notably better to play than SH1), it’s often overly obtuse in terms of what you need to do next, the story is okay but really hampered by the bad acting, outside of the nurses and doctors (and the final boss) the enemies are lame and the game is just kind of ugly outside of some strong cinematography here or there. It has strong art that just doesn’t shine through super well IMO due in part to Konami pushing against the limitations of what was by ‘99, aged hardware. Playing through SH1 does build a good lore foundation for SH3 but I don’t view it as essential to enjoy that game the way that some (understandably) do.

To me and I’d think many, SH2 is the main event of a feature like this. My first experience through it about a decade ago on the original Xbox is an experience that will always stick with me as few video game stories have hit me or stayed with me after completing it the way this game’s did. I do think it’s rough in spots especially in 2022 but by and large SH2 holds up really well, probably better than any other game in the series. It’s the main thing I would hold up for why the series needs to come back. Unfortunately even if it does come back I’ll probably always be chasing that dragon.

If y’all play SH games beyond SH2 that’s just gravy to me. That said, I’d probably just do SH3, Shattered Memories and (if possible) P.T. then call it. SH: Origins and Homecoming are both technically fine games with great soundtracks and some cool enemy designs but by and large they’re boring, kind of soulless games with really not great stories. If you were to make SH games using a checklist SH-y shit the end results would be Origins and Homecoming. They’re just incredibly safe entires that are kind of awful as a result of how aggressively mediocre they are.

I have a high degree of appreciation for Downpour and SH4 as they’re both games that take some big swings (SH4 especially) but boy are they both absolutely abysmal games to play through. SH4 is especially frustrating as that game has a strong premise and despite being rough in some notable ways right off the bat it does a lot of really cool kind of proto P.T.-ish shit early on that I’d go as far as yo say that I really like the first half of SH4. That said, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a game’s back half shit the bed harder than SH4. The story goes off the deep end in a VERY bad way (though also the VO in this game is somehow significantly worse than SH1?) and the gameplay just becomes aggressively hateful of the player demanding far too much of them. It’s just not fun at all.

Y’all should play Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee for GameCube and Xbox. That game is fantastic. Really fun 4 player action.

Happy for Jeff!

Jeff could have the most incredible garage sale. Also, 480p is an amazing artistic choice. The Snydercut of GB streams.

The pressure sensitive buttons on the DS2 actually worked pretty well. DS3 is a different story. The DS3 is notably smaller as are the face buttons so it does not work well at all.

Is it a spoiler to say that you can do at least two different types of parties? I heard about this (and the fact that the party isn’t very long) prior to starting the party so I saved before the party and once it finished and I had talked to everyone I reloaded and did the other party because you can only do the party once.

Absolutely with Vinny. Tackle the Citadel dlc before the end game. The ending is such that whether you like it or not it'll feel weird coming back to the game after it. Also, there's a significant amount of stuff to do in in the Citadel dlc. I would say two (possibly) full episodes worth of content especially if you save scum the party to do the alternate party. The actual Citadel mission itself maybe is tonally out of whack with what's happening right now but it's kind of a nice breathe of fresh air with just how depressing the main story in this game largely is.
