@davidh219: I'm maybe overblowing the uniqueness, but I do have to say calling it basically another Far Cry is a little dismissive. If that's all there was to it I wouldn't be defending it - I've played those games a whole lot, and I'm getting a little worn out on open world games at this point too. I'd really barely even call it an open world game, but hey, labels are dumb.

It's funny, I think if MGSV had been what you described, I might have been on the other side of this argument, haha. A puzzle/RPG/Sim City game sounds like my worst nightmare (minus maybe the RPG part), but who knows?

@davidh219: I totally get that! Like I said, you don't have to like what he made, that's totally valid.

I just want people to consider gamed like this in the context of what people are really asking for when they say they want developers to be original and get out of the cycle of pumping out same-y sequels over and over again.

Just disappoints me to see people saying they wish they had made another more traditional Metal Gear game when they've already made a whole bunch of those, and completely wrapped up the story with MGS4.

Obviously putting a brand name on a product creates expectations, which is a whole other thing to get into. I just wish people's expectations weren't that it has to be the same kind of game every time.

tldr: Basically wish more people's reaction wasn't "I wish this was more like other Metal Gear games" and more "I'm just not a huge fan of this game and what it did specifically", because of the message that sends to publishers.

Apparently I can't say anything about Metal Gear without writing an essay. Jeez.

Everyone's allowed to have their own opinions on this stuff obviously, and it's not a perfect game by any means. But I can't help but think it's hilarious seeing people say they love MGS2, a game that is in large part a commentary on subverting fans' expectations, and hate this game for not feeling like more Metal Gear. To me, this feels like the closest thing Kojima has done in that vein since.

I love Kojima because he throws huge curveballs that no one would ever expect out of a game this size. What's the biggest curve Kojima could throw at this point? A game that's almost devoid of story, while being one of the most mechanically interesting games I've ever played.

You're free to not like the thing he made, but I think it's important to step back and recognize just how similar the reaction people are having to this game feels to what happened when MGS2 was released.

Not saying the story that is in there doesn't have big problems that should be overlooked in favor of seeing this as some grand subversion or something. Like I said, it's not perfect, but it's still the most unique, fascinating big budget game I've played in years.

Okay okay I'm done. I'm a big fanboy, I know, and I'm taking all this too seriously for a game where you can tell a horse to poop on your face. Just had to get that thought out.

You know how sometimes it feels like a thing was made just for you? That's how I feel about Vinny and this game.

Oh holy shit I love that they actually thought that intercept had a shot. The only thing that could have made it better would have been if they actually managed to come in contact only to have Dudny vaporize on their windshield and/or fly like a bullet into their ship and explode.

God this series is the best.

Bloodborne weapons deserved to win best styyyyyyle on their own as far as I'm concerned.

Mechanical stake driver that fires a spike into bad guys with a gunpowder explosion.

Huge badass sword that shoots magic slashes out when you swing it.

Badass katana that you cover in your own blood to make it hit harder.

Giant fucking hammer that explodes when you hit people with it.

Weird... parasite... thing that turns your arms into tentacles for some reason. Okay, maybe not that last one.
