Honest question: If Jeff dislikes meta scores so much why are Giantbomb even ON metacritic.com? They gotta admit that their 5 star review format doesnt really fit that well meta so why not just stay out?
Is it not possible to opt out?
(I have NO love for this exclusive FMV-ridden cover shooter of a game, but im just curious)
I certainly have my fair share of issues running this game, and it seemed to have gotten a free pass must other places, so kudos for pointing it out, but seeing a 60 meta score for this game is just not right. In some way its more the scoring system your running than the wording of the review I take issue with here.
"The lasting appeal of any multiplayer-focused game is heavily determined by its progression system..."
RIP Dota, Counter-Strike, and Star Craft.
These games may not have persistent unlocks but they have lots of progression: Dota - you start out as a lvl1 hero with almost no items and steadily progress from there. CS - You start with a pistol and earn cash to get better weapons. SC - you start out with a simple base and some workers and grow and get new units.
This is one of the things battlefront seems to be missing. If you had some sort of sense of ingame progression, like a level up every time an objective was reached that could spice up the game (not just random pickups). But im sure they would be concerned about giving the winning team more advantages and this is a game for everyone.
Also these three games mentioned, all have ranked mm, which gives another layer of progression overall - not unlocks, but still very important to competitive players. something battlefront clearly doesn't aspire to.
I feel the PC version got shafted again this time when it comes down to the interface. Pressing tab to "go back" but sometimes press enter and other times escape.. i mean thats just a mess..
The crap overview of your inventory is as bad as it was in F3 and they didnt take any lessons from the mods, just a one-size-fits-all version between PC and console (favoring the console). I supposed they expect modders to fix the PC version ?
On a positive note i feel hooked on the game as a whole and i cant wait to play more!
Jeff that reference to "D-pad" in a PC review made me cringe :P
