@retris: @sethmode: I agree, with both of you. While I'm still kind of skeeved by the farewell post feeling super icky and corporate, Dan is as good a new captain as we could possibly get. I don't agree with the rampant speculations at this point, I just kind of understand why some people are going there. They shouldn't, and any one of a million things could have happened. But it's the internet so everyone is having their die hard 2 moment of 'what are the odds the same shit happens to the same guy twice', I guess.

@sethmode: I think part of the problem is we've seen this before. We had our run of rampant speculation about corporate meddling being involved in a Jeff departure over a decade ago, and you know what?

It was all fucking correct.

So I think a lot of people are seeing mirrors to that here and taking it as they will. It's hard not to feel kind of cynical and deja-vu-y about it.

I want to be excited, because Dan is great and I genuinely loved everything about that video...

But yes, the exit of Jeff still feels weird and swept under the rug. But, at this point, maybe that was Jeff's choice. Hopefully we'll get some clarity from him later today, but maybe not.

@therealturk: From what I've read, they're intentionally remixing the chronology of certain events, so I wouldn't be surprised if Mordeth comes later. Padan was a pretty background B-tier villain until, you know, he suddenly wasn't, so they might not want to use screen time setting him up as much 'till further on.

I'm on book.... Seven? I think? Eight, maybe? Honestly, I've lost track, but anyway I have such a weird relationship with this series. On one hand, I spend a lot of time bitching about the terrible rush hour traffic level of pacing in the books after like the first 3, Jordan's need to repeat himself and the characters' inner monologues constantly (PERRIN SMELLS A THING. RAND IS AAAAANGRY!) and have people behave in ways no actual human would (NO ONE WOULD HAVE PHYSICALLY YANKING ON THEIR OWN BRAID AS A NERVOUS TICK. THAT'S NOT A NORMAL THING. WHAT THE FUCK DOES KNUCKLING ONES FOREHEAD EVEN MEAN. OH LOOK SOMEONE IS DRY WASHING THEIR HANDS AGAIN.).

On the other hand, all the changes made for the show make me irrationally angry and make me not want to watch it despite my constant ribbing on the books themselves. It's very nonsensical.

Also they did my boy Loial dirty in the show, from the images I've seen. He looks like a god damn clown.

@rorie: A forum thread is useful, but it feels like a band-aid. I know there isn't much you guys can do with the current site format, but it needs a full on overhaul that tells people whats upcoming right front-and-center.

That said, I very much appreciate what you do and how communicative you are, Rorie, and reviving the forum thread would still be a good step in lieu of a total site redesign!

Because, as much as I love Giant Bomb, the website itself is organizationally in shambles. And that's on top of communication never having been GB's strong suit.

@hippie_genocide: I can kind of understand that one. When it comes down to it, not everyone has the time or, in some cases, the skill or coordination to put in what you might consider a moderate amount of effort to git gud. I don't have a lot of free time, so if a game is going to require I sink a substantial amount of time in to it to get better than dying repeatedly for a week, I drop it. I would rather play something that's moderately challenging but isn't going to be me beating my head against a wall for days at a time.

Adam Sessler's take on Metroid Dread baffled me. He docked the game because it didn't do enough different from past titles in the franchise when, realistically, the last time we got a brand new 2d entry in the Metroid series (read: not a remake) was literally 20 years ago. It's not like they come out annually. On top of that, he heaped loads of praise on RE: Village for almost the same thing (hearkening back to classic RE). So, just in general, his review left me scratching my head a little.
