Greatest Boroughs of Hip Hop part 1

So we all know that NY is one of the greatest cities when it comes to music. And It's no question that it's the birthplace of Hip Hop music. But you always hear MCs repping their "hood" and to an outsider this can often be confusing. Just as confusing as this blog post because I will not be explaining what reppin' your hood means. Instead I will run down a list of the 5 boroughs of New York City and the rappers/ DJs/ Industry people that call them home.

The Bronx

Considered the birthplace of hip hop, the Bronx is home to the Cross Bronx Expressway which many blame for the problems facing it's residents. It was also part of the bridge wars in the late 80s when South Bronx rapper KRS-One and Queens rap crew The Juicecrew disputed the birthplace of Hip Hop. It culminated in BDP's classic "The Bridge is Over".
The buildings in the background show the arson problem that plagued the Bronx for the longest time

Notable artists include:

  • KRS-One (of BDP fame)
  • Afrika Bambaataa ( The godfather of hip hop culture)
  • Grandmaster Flash
  • Melle Mel (The message)
  • DJ Kool Herc (known for originating hip hop music back in the 1970s)
  • Big Pun
  • Slick Rick ( born in England, immigrated to the Bronx as a child)
  • Grand Wizzard Theodore (Invented scratching, not sure if he's in DJ Hero...anyone know?)
  • Lord Finesse
  •  Inspectah Deck ( "he's like that dude that'll sit back and watch you play yourself and all that right? And see you sit there and know you lyin; and he'll take you to court after that, cuz he the Inspectah." )
Sure they rep Staten Island, but how many are actually from there?

  • Pete Rock ( The one and only)
Those are just some of the pioneers and people I just felt like adding but there are many more, feel free to add your own, please refrain from adding Tim Dog and Fat Joe.

Four more to go, well actually more like 3, but whatever....

Great Game Manuals: Fallout 3

Hello,

So one of the quests requires me to make a blog every day, so instead of writing useless thoughts and feelings ( I'll save that for my diary thank you) I decided to look back at great, current, game manuals. Not the old manuals cause those were all great, I'm talking about the rare breed that is good current gen console manuals. Also I will try to avoid exclusives and focus on multiplatform because those are much rarer.

Here's how you don't do manuals: Thin 3 page colorless booklet

The HUD page doesn't even have a screenshot

Here's an awesome way: Awesome, thick and colorful!

Thank you Jeff Gerstmann

Just wanted to thank Jeff for answering the myriad of questions I've asked him during the chat session about Call of Duty Black ops. There's probably no way of recording that chat but If you missed it Jeff answered a hell of a lot of questions and gave me more info about it than any trailer ever could. Not many journalists will join a chat at 12:30 in the morning to answer questions about something they just saw at a press conference. Thank you for going above and beyond once again.

sincerely,
Black Label Domm

pS. Would love to have the hip hop gamer on sometime.

Holyday 2010 video game schedule prediction

No Caption Provided

This is a graph that I predict will look similar to my achievement progress here on giantbomb.com. As you can see fallout will take a lot of my time...

here's a breakdown:
Sept 14 to the 28 will be halo campaign until deadrising 2 comes out and ill play it a lot but for a short time. After that I will pick up the multiplayer for halo until MOH comes out, hopefully there will be a constant stream of halo online after that. I will play campaign for MOH and try multiplayer but I predict a steady fall in multiplayer time. Then fallout comes out...urgh! I see myself spending 200 hours and s-ranking it just as with fallout 3. The release of Fable 3 will reduce slightly the amount of time I spend in the Mohave desert. Fable is a big world probably so it will continue to be played while black ops and AC brotherhood are played. I will probably only play the campaign in black ops, that is why the graph falls so abruptly. Same goes for Assassin's Creed. Fallout will persist. That's a lot of releases for a short 3 months. I don't even want to begin thinking about all the stuff that comes out in early 2011.

I feel like I'm the only person who enjoys this series

I feel like I'm the only person in the world who likes this series. All my friends who play games have no clue about these and not even one of the giantbomb guys likes this series. I hear everybody hating on them cause of the difficulty and trial and error. I feel so alone...

 Why won't you love me?

Yo so Giantbomb starts doing premium content...

How do they manage doing "exclusive" content AND enough content for non-paying subscribers at the same time? Last I checked there weren't that many dudes in that basement. Eventually wont people paying start to wonder "what am I paying for?". I remember trying to watch a video on IGN and getting a message that it's only for "IGN Insiders" and it was the worst feeling in the world. I wanted to learn about a game in order to make a purchasing decision and the only way I could get more info is by paying? the fuck? I truly believe that the bombcrew knows better but I've been seeing a lot of talk about a subscription model. I got nothing against it as long as it's limited to profile stuff and Higher definition for videos (what's up with HD the player is good enough as it is...)
Giantbomb is at this point the only video game website I visit (excluding Wikis) and the worst thing I could imagine is clicking on a video of Jeff trying a series of beverages and rating them and getting a message saying: This video is for BOMBmembers only. Click here to subscribe!"

I know this topic already exists and yes bro, this is a cool story but it's been on my mind lately only because I really like Ginatbomb.com (It's a website about video games!)
