@ultimaxe: From what I'm reading, the character development -is- there, I'm halfway in the story but spending tons of time doing open world bullshit(26 hours in). I really really liked the kotaku review on this one, it highlights the real issues and flaws with the game but goes over what it does well.
If you want a protoype/infamous/ffxv "thing", you could...well, you can't really do worse or better because that game only exists in forspoken, so if that sounds good you should try it sometime.
I'm not gonna lie, I've waned a lot on GB content. There's a lot with people or on things that I'm not as into as in years past and my life has gotten busier. I haven't given up by sub yet because I still love this place.
This video though? I love this video so much. There is such a personal history with Rorie and this game and I just absolutely love it. At some point it could've been any arcade game he was competing in with someone, and at another point it could only be this game with the way it saves data and how it works.
It was awesome seeing Danny go "I dunno, seems fine, can't figure it out" and then instantly get hit with the OOHHhh in the same moment I did as Rorie detailed how it tracked progress and how the leaderboards worked.
After an annoying, busy, frustrating and exhausting day back to work at my "essential job" that is busier than hell every single day, THIS video is just what I need.
This game is a basic arcade beat-em-up. If this came out in the 90s, It would be an arcade hit.
Fuck no it wouldn't be. Without the other bad horse shit attached to it this game looks like complete trash in every gameplay aspect. Even if those games sucked up quarters, simpsons arcade played a lot better than this. I was looking forward to there being some redemption for shaq fu but this game is awful.
Game seems like absolute trash. You can tell the punching sucks and has no weight and the jumping looks like garbage. The bosses twitch around and suck. The 2d animation/stills are all right. I wondered if this was the point of the game, be a piece of shit just like the original?
Yeah for everyone getting butt hurt over others calling it out of it being a bigoted fire, get over it. It's a trash fire of being a terrible game and also decidedly shitty towards the majority of people.
*edit* I think the original shaq fu is a better game.
I'm not saying the author couldn't be shitty, I don't know anything about him or his work, but I didn't immediately project Ted being a shitbag to the author being a shitbag. Maybe he agrees with Ted or maybe he acts that way but also sees the error of his ways(hence the scenario) but has been unable to make himself better. It seems amateurish to immediately say fuck the game if the whole idea is that Ted does suck and he suffers the consequences of his actions.
And Benny being a racist asshole? I don't really know how well that pans out because I haven't seen more of the game, but I'm ok in saying he is so does that mean it's allowed to have him as a character you play or not? If ultimately you make his life a little better and he doesnt change for the better, maybe that sucks, but if he learns something or his ending sucks because of his views....
I dunno. I'm ok with seeing shitty views in games. I want to see shitty views and people to learn they suck and deal with it, or learn from it or us to see that they DON'T learn anything and they continue to be punished for it and what kind of bad outcomes arise from them. This game might not do it great and maybe it is just coming from a place of hate and garbage but all in all I don't know where to condemn something has racist and sexist tripe or to uplift it as a work of fiction that deals with hard subjects.
